Venor is proud to partner with our client Nova Truck Centres, in their search for a Controller, based out of their location in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Reporting to the President, the Controller plays a critical role in managing the financial health of the company and ensuring that it operates efficiently and effectively. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing various financial functions, including cash flow management, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, accounts receivable and payable, and inventory management. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the completion of cash flow statements and monthly and year-end financial statements, conducting budget and variance analysis, expense management, month-end entries, lease accounting management, as well as providing supervision and guidance to accounting staff across multiple locations. Furthermore, you will be entrusted with managing the due diligence process for acquisitions as well as ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations, including financial reporting standards and internal controls.
Additionally, as the Controller you will oversee and review bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing and inventory management processes. You will be accountable for maintaining tax records and responding to inquiries from tax authorities to ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and local tax regulations. Furthermore, as part of the Human Resources team, the controller is also responsible for payroll and benefit administration while actively contributing to the negotiation and procurement of benefit packages for all employees. Benefits packages include, but are not limited to, RRSP, health and dental benefits.
As the ideal candidate, you possess a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, along with a minimum of 10 years’ experience with at least 3 years in a managerial role, or an equivalent mix of education and experience. You possess strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and draw conclusions. Experience using accounting software as well familiarity with using spreadsheets, databases, and other tools to organize and analyze financial data, as well as a thorough understanding of tax law and regulations at the federal, provincial, and local levels is essential. You have a keen eye for detail and with strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Knowledge of commercial vehicle financing and leasing, understanding of the financial impact of leasing activities as well as experience with CDK Global is considered an asset.
