Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring a strong job start-up including gaining a complete understanding of the project, the budget, scheduling requirements, and crew requirements prior to project start.
- Manage project scheduling, daily work requirements, daily paperwork, crew, and contract payment items on an ongoing basis.
- Coordinate production goals, targets, and scope, and troubleshoot problem areas with Site Superintendent.
- Provide strong leadership to the crew in keeping with Conwest’s Corporate values.
Key Internal Relationships & General Expectations
- Communicate regularly with Site Superintendents, Project Managers, and General Superintendent when required.
- Maintain an open dialogue with employees to ensure they are aware of the daily work plan and remain aware of how their performance measures up to company expectations.
- On an ongoing basis, provide feedback to Site Superintendent and Site HR on the performance of employees.
Job Responsibilities
- Review each project, including blueprints/drawings/plans, with the Superintendent to ensure safe and technically appropriate approach to tasks and construction methods, including incorporation of health, safety, quality and environmental expectations and standards.
- Ensure pre-locate program is performed for all existing utilities that may conflict with job-site activities, and that this information is properly disseminated, acted-upon, clear and available.
- Work with the Project Superintendent to schedule for all materials and resources to arrive before needed and manage project scheduling to ensure the timely arrival of all materials, resources and sub-contractors. Also forward plan setting up sub-contractors for layout, delivery of supplies, density and pressure testing, proof rolls, beam tests etc.
- Provide clear instructions to the crew, with ongoing supervision, training/development, assistance, feedback and motivation to ensure project schedules are met, while adhering to safety, quality and environmental expectations and standards.
- Work with the Project Superintendent, crews and clients to understand upcoming requirements and liaise with the Dispatcher to organize the job daily activities.
- Promote and uphold safety and quality management working practices and participate in safety meetings and initiatives.
- Ensure a detailed knowledge is maintained for all site activities in order to:
- Accurately complete daily paperwork, time sheets and other applicable paperwork with attention to detail.
- Communicate job progress, information and updates to inspectors an other project stakeholders.
- Attend meetings to discuss job production, schedule, conflicts and provide toolbox updates to crews.
- Maintain equipment and report any maintenance issues.
- Manage materials inventory, including removal from site at job end.
Skills, Qualifications, & Experience
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Foreperson or Lead Hand, including deep utility/roadworks experience and a solid understanding of all aspects of operations/civil projects including:
- Reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings and plans.
- Planning, directing, motivating and supervising crews, and managing project execution.
- Understanding of grades and all aspects of Civil Construction.
- Sound heavy equipment knowledge.
- Experience with HCSS, Heavy Job or other field data capture systems considered an asset.
- Must possess proficient communication skills to interact with all project stakeholders and the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Must possess a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
- Possess a demonstrated ability to lead and direct construction teams, analyze issues, and bring innovative solutions to achieving work plan objectives. Specific experience required leading crews in civil construction..
- First aid, confined space and fall protection training is an asset.
- Must be physically fit, able to spend most or all of shift standing, walking, lifting, carrying and working hands-on in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions.
- Must be flexible with hours worked, including overtime and weekend work as needed.
- Possess a basic understanding and interpretation of Job Cost reports.
- Possess an understanding of a union environment and be willing to join CLAC.
- Current safety tickets an asset.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license, a clean driver’s abstract, and be able to travel to sites across the Lower Mainland region.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $42.60-$48.16 per hour
