Seeking a bilingual individual who has experience in occupational health and safety and demonstrates strong leadership skills. The health and safety officer's main aim is to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related illnesses in the workplace. Their role is to implement corporate health and safety policies in accordance with the latest legislation and to ensure that these policies are implemented by management and employees.


  • Health and Safety for all departments:
  • Certified Joint Health and Safety Committee management member
  • Onboarding for new hires
  • Develop written safety procedures in consultation with Supervisors and the JHSC
  • Evaluate training needs with Supervisors and arrange for employee training
  • Ensure that management and employees, consultants, contractors, customers, visitors and the general public adhere to site health and safety rules
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with the corporate health and safety team
  • Conduct workplace inspections and coordinate meetings
  • Participate in monthly safety calls
  • Injury/incident reporting and investigations

Other Duties:

  • Reception – answer telephones and general email inquiries
  • Backup scale operator, as needed
  • Package shipping and receiving
  • Greeting visitors and communicating site safety rules for visitors, distributing PPE as required
  • Document redaction, record keeping and filing
  • Hosting educational site tours to various groups
  • Ordering office supplies and maintaining inventory
  • May perform additional responsibilities as assigned by Management


  • Bilingual
  • Occupational health and safety experience
  • Certified Joint Health and Safety Committee member would be a definite asset
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Excel
  • Knowledge of industry (solid waste management) an asset
  • Knowledge of WSIB reporting, an asset
  • Proven ability to multi-task & ability to prioritize tasks
  • Excellent verbal, analytical and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive individual who can work well independently and in a team environment
  • Able to work well under pressure and meet set deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail
