Reports to: Director of Sales & Marketing
Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Pre-Construction and R&D Consultant to join our team. The Pre-Construction and R&D Consultant will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that our modular building manufacturing processes, designs, and installations comply with all relevant building codes, regulations, and standards. This role requires a strong understanding of building codes, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
This position involves a balanced blend of responsibilities, with design tasks accounting for approximately 20-30% of the workload. The primary focus, constituting 60-70% of the role, revolves around leveraging extensive product knowledge to tackle technical challenges and drive problem-solving initiatives effectively. Additionally, around 10% of the job entails engaging in research and development efforts to foster ongoing improvements and innovation within our product offerings.
Key Responsibilities:
Compliance and Client Advocacy:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local, provincial, and federal building codes, regulations, and standards, especially as they pertain to modular construction.
- Interpret and ensure the application of building codes and regulations across the design, manufacturing, and installation phases, with a keen focus on client specifications and satisfaction.
- Perform regular compliance audits, pinpointing areas for improvement, and translating these findings into actionable insights for our clients.
- Inform and consult with the sales team on modular construction capabilities, industry trends, and regulatory updates to better serve our clients.
- Undertake thorough job assessments to determine the viability and alignment of potential projects, providing critical insights for decision-making on project pursuit, encompassing go/no-go evaluations.
Process Optimization and Client Engagement:
- Develop and refine best practices for aligning compliance efforts with client expectations, enhancing the overall client experience.
- Work closely with teams across commercial, design, engineering, production, and quality assurance to embed compliance and client requirements seamlessly into our operations.
- Collaborate with the Design Manager during the sales process to develop comprehensive client drawings, integral to the formulation of bid packages, ensuring alignment with project specifications and client requirements
- Identify and implement process improvements to boost efficiency, compliance, and client satisfaction.
- Research and Development – contributing insights and strategies towards maintaining our competitive edge in the market, fostering innovation, and aligning product development and spec standards with overarching business objectives
Education and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Lead training initiatives to elevate the team's understanding of building codes, compliance, and client service excellence.
- Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to advise both the team and clients effectively.
- Cultivate a culture of compliance, excellence, and ongoing improvement, emphasizing the importance of meeting and exceeding client expectations.
Building Relationships:
- Act as the go-to expert for all matters related to building code compliance and client queries, ensuring a responsive and client-focused approach.
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and clients to navigate compliance issues and fulfill project requirements seamlessly.
- Establish and nurture positive, lasting relationships with clients, internal stakeholders, and industry organizations.
- Promptly communicate with team members and clients, while also delivering quick turnarounds on assigned tasks to ensure timely project completion.
- Represent the company externally at tradeshows and other networking events to promote our products and services effectively.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- University degree or diploma in construction, engineering, architecture, or related field
- Preference given to candidates with either CET or P.Eng. designations
- 5+ years working experience in Construction or Manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of Canadian building codes
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering, design and drafting of modular structures
- Able to create engineering drawings and specifications
- Experience in Modular Manufacturing and Construction preferred.
- Able to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and as-builts.
- Mathematical and analytical skills necessary for development of material and labor estimates.
- Mathematical and analytical skills necessary for interpretation of job-cost reports.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00-$130,000.00 per year
