About Us

Since the celebration of 100 years of Mustangs Athletics in 2013-14, Western’s two official athletic alumni chapters, the “W” Club and the Women’s Athletic Alumnae (WAA), joined efforts in support of the next 100 years of Western Mustangs Athletics. This one organization is now known as the Western Mustangs Athletic Alumni (WMAA).

The Western Mustangs Athletic Alumni aims to build pride, to encourage and promote lifelong connections amongst Western’s athletes, coaches and staff while upholding the purple and proud tradition and heritage of Mustangs Athletics and helping to provide a competitive advantage to our current athletes and programs.

The WMAA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and supported by a network of dedicated alumni volunteers who serve on its committees. Together, they champion initiatives that celebrate the legacy of Western sport and strengthen engagement across generations of Mustangs.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Museum Curator

Report to the Director, External Engagement (Alumni Relations)
Work closely with the Chair of the Museum Committee on behalf of the Board of Directors of the Western Mustangs Athletic Alumni (WMAA)
Create exhibits for the Metras Museum in Alumni Hall
Propose and identify events to the board that will celebrate the history of Mustang athletics
Maintain the Metras Museum’s online presence through content on the website and social media
Update the museum’s artifact catalogue and process any new acquisitions
Respond to requests for information on Western Mustangs sports history
Actively pursue all areas of Western sports history and promote the function and operation of the museum
Coordinate and collaborate with Alumni Relations, Western Sport and Recreation Services, and the Department of History (Public History program) to align museum initiatives with institutional priorities and community engagement goals
Investigate internships and work study opportunities to support the ongoing work of the museum, including but not limited to Western Social Science Internship Program, Kinesiology, FIMS (Faculty of Information & Media Studies), Public History program, and the Department of Visual Arts (Museum and Curatorial Studies)

Qualifications

Education

Undergraduate degree
Masters preferred

Skills, Abilities & Expertise

Written and verbal communication skills to express ideas clearly, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs; experience with digital collections preferred
Basic computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and website maintenance
Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
Ability to follow formal business practices with high attention to detail
Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
Demonstrate ability to understand and resolve external and internal partner issues
Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve WMAA goals
Ability to work in a manner that is compliant with confidentiality requirements
