We are seeking a warm, organized, and dependable Administrator & Classroom Assistant to join our Montessori daycare team. This is a unique combined role that supports the smooth day-to-day operation of the daycare while also providing hands-on assistance in the classroom.
The successful candidate will be comfortable balancing administrative responsibilities with working directly with children. They will help create a welcoming, organized, and professional environment for children, families, and staff while supporting the Montessori philosophy and classroom routines.
Key ResponsibilitiesAdministrative Duties
- Welcome children, families, staff, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
- Manage daily administrative tasks and ensure the daycare office and records remain organized.
- Respond to parent and staff inquiries by phone, email, and in person.
- Assist with enrollment paperwork, attendance records, forms, and other administrative documentation.
- Maintain accurate and confidential child and staff records.
- Assist with scheduling, staff calendars, meetings, and daily communications.
- Support billing, invoicing, payments, and other basic administrative or bookkeeping tasks as required.
- Assist with ordering and maintaining office, classroom, and daycare supplies.
- Help ensure required forms, notices, and records are up to date.
- Communicate important information between administration, educators, and families.
- Assist with daycare policies, procedures, licensing documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Support the Director with general administrative projects and tasks as needed.
- Help maintain an organized, welcoming, and professional reception/office area.
Classroom Responsibilities
- Provide support to the lead educator and classroom team throughout the day.
- Assist with supervision and care of children in accordance with daycare policies and licensing requirements.
- Help maintain a calm, respectful, and nurturing classroom environment.
- Support children's daily routines, including meals, toileting, handwashing, rest, outdoor play, and transitions.
- Assist children with activities and materials while encouraging independence and confidence.
- Help prepare, organize, and maintain Montessori classroom materials and learning areas.
- Observe and respond appropriately to children's individual needs and interests.
- Support positive guidance and respectful behavior management.
- Assist with classroom cleaning, organization, and preparation.
- Participate in outdoor activities, walks, special events, and other daycare activities as required.
- Communicate observations and relevant information to classroom educators and administration.
- Follow all health, safety, emergency, and child-protection procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience working with children in a daycare, preschool, Montessori, or similar educational setting is an asset.
- Previous administrative or office experience is an asset.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Warm, patient, professional, and approachable personality.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable balancing office responsibilities with active classroom work.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a busy childcare environment.
- Comfortable using email, Microsoft Office/Google Workspace, childcare management software, and other basic technology.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain it.
- Minimum of a level one Alberta Childcare certificate.
- Successful completion of required criminal record/vulnerable sector checks and other licensing requirements.
Pay: $19.00-$20.00 per hour
