Position Summary and Scope
Vac Aero’s Furnace Operator will be responsible for loading and unloading parts from fixtures and furnaces. Ensuring correct parts, quantity and test pieces loaded and unloaded. Report directly to Shift Leader and Operations Manager.
Schedule:
8-hour rotating shifts (Monday to Friday):
- Days: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
- Afternoons: 3:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
- Nights: 11:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
Transition to 12-hour continental shifts (24/7 operation) starting October 1, 2026
Responsibilities
Report directly to the Operations Manager (or their designees) and perform tasks as delegated, including but not limited to the following:
- Follow all Vac Aero safety procedures and company policies.
- Ensure correct parts, quantities, and test pieces are loaded and unloaded.
- Load, lift and wire parts to fixtures.
- Learn and operate furnace equipment in accordance with procedures.
- Operate forklift and overhead lifting devices (Training Provided).
- Clean and organize the shop and/or yard.
- Wear PPE: safety boots, glasses, eye protection, fall protection, and a respirator when required.
- Safely lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Learn to operate the furnace.
- Effectively work in both cold and hot environments.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Mandatory Police Background Check performed for Controlled Goods before hire.
- Canadian citizenship or Permanent Resident status preferred for Controlled Goods.
- Clean Canadian criminal background check preferred.
Special Skills
- Good interpersonal communications skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, critical thinking.
- Time management, planning and organizational skills, including the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Some ability to use a computer and software applications to complete duties. – furnace equipment, large machinery.
- Ability to learn on the job, ask questions and apply knowledge as appropriate in the department.
- Experience with heat treatment is an asset
Performance will be based upon:
Timely and satisfactory performance of all tasks outlined above as observed by the Operations Manager of the Division.
Working Conditions
The position is performed on-site at the Thermal Division facility, in a manufacturing environment that includes regular exposure to cold or hot work, dirt, and noise. Work is performed in cold or hot work environment, inside or outside.
The position requires regular periods of moderate physical effort and mental, visual and / or aural concentration, and constant levels of manual dexterity to perform daily tasks. The work environment presents moderate risk of injury to the incumbent.

Safety Responsibilities
- Work in a safe manner and strive for zero work related incidents.
- Understand and follow safety practices/procedures and WHMIS, which may include wearing PPE, safety boots, glasses, eye protection, fall protection and respirator as required.
- Ensure proper/safe use of equipment, safeguards, PPE and hazardous materials.
- Report hazards/incidents to manager without delay.
- Ensure every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection of team members
