Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the planning, developing, implementing, evaluating and coordinating of the delivery of evidence-based school health strategies that align with the Mental Health Strategic plan and operational plan for safe schools. This position supports the Manager-Mental Health Services/Mental Health Lead in developing promotional campaigns, resources, interventions to align with School Mental Health Ontario strategic directions, this position will involve extensive collaboration across the school board to support all activities and interventions outlined in the Three Year SCCDSB Mental Health Strategic Plan.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager-Mental Health Services/Mental Health Lead, the Health Promotions Specialist will:
- Working in partnership with the Mental Health Lead, provide assistance to supporting the process of the delivery of evidence-based school health strategies, interventions and programs that align with School Mental Health Ontario and Ministry of Education strategic direction.

Provide expert advice and consultation to stakeholders on health issues.

Collaborate with school board staff in strategic and operational planning for mental health and safe schools programs.

Support the assessment of school community needs and analyzes information with respect to school health issues.

Support the parent engagement process aligned with School Mental Health Ontario.

Work with parent groups to support their needs to develop school and community-based resources.

Host and organize parent engagement sessions for the entire school board system.

Develop and/or provide manuals and resource materials for staff, administrators, school board, parents and students.

Support the MH Lead with Researching and writing correspondence, position papers, and reports for the school board.

Partners with curriculum coordinators to ensure the training and resources are available for social emotional learning across the system.

Develops and coordinates communication plans and social marketing strategies to promote healthy school initiatives.

Support the youth engagement strategy outlined by School Mental Health Ontario and the MH Lead.

Lead focus groups, surveys and individual sessions to garner the needs of the students and to support the alignment & development of strategies to meet those needs in schools.

Travelling to school settings to set up the various activities required in schools.

Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills-
A Master's degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Public Health, Health Sciences, Recreation Leadership, Social Sciences, Nursing or related area, or an equivalent combination of a baccalaureate degree and extensive experience relevant to the primary duties of the position.

A minimum of 3 years' experience working in the health promotion specialized field.
A minimum of 5 years' experience with planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating health projects in a systems role. -
Certified Health Promotion Specialist and certificate in Motivational Interviewing is desirable.

Possesses extensive knowledge in the School Mental Health Ontario AIM framework and evidence-based approaches to implementing this work at a systems level.

Experience leading and organizing complex projects with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage and meet timelines for concurrent projects.

Experience working in government literacy projects that supports Ministry protocols and processes.

Experience leading program planning including needs assessments, logic model development and evaluation, social marketing, research, advocacy and policy development.

Knowledge of and ability to apply the determinants of health and access and equity principles.

Ability to work cooperatively and foster relationships with stakeholders within Sarnia-Lambton & Chatham-Kent and within the community.

Experience using social media as well as excellent Microsoft suite skills, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel database applications.

Possession of a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and access to a vehicle.
