Aurora House, a transitional housing program within MNLC, provides women and families who have experienced human trafficking, gender-based violence (GBV), intimate partner violence (IPV), and exploitation with safety, dignity, and stability. The program offers a supportive residential environment where residents receive individualized, trauma-informed and survivor-centered case management based on their unique needs, circumstances, and goals.
Through housing and settlement support, advocacy, referrals, life-skills development, and connections to health, mental health, education, employment, and community resources, Aurora House supports residents in strengthening their independence and working toward sustainable, long-term housing.
Position Summary
Aurora House is seeking a Part-Time Case Worker to provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered case management and practical support to women and families who have experienced human trafficking, intimate partner violence, and/or gender-based violence.
This is an in-person position, three days per week. The Case Worker will support residents throughout their time at Aurora House, from intake and initial assessment to ongoing case management and preparation for independent or long-term housing.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in interviews, assessments, and intakes for prospective residents alongside the Housing Manager.
- Complete intake documentation, orientation, initial needs assessments, and Individual Action Plans.
- Meet regularly with residents to discuss their needs, goals, progress, and any concerns.
- Develop, review, and update Individual Action Plans and follow up on identified goals.
- Support residents in accessing housing, healthcare, mental health, settlement, immigration, legal, employment, education, childcare, financial, and other community services.
- Make referrals and follow up with community agencies and service providers as needed.
- Assist residents with applications, appointments, documentation, advocacy, and navigating community and government services.
- Maintain clear, accurate, confidential, and timely case notes, resident files, referral information, and other required documentation.
- Conduct regular resident check-ins and scheduled room/accommodation checks in accordance with Aurora House policies and the Resident Manual.
- Monitor the Aurora House program cellphone during scheduled working days and respond to resident case-management needs, escalating urgent or safety-related concerns to the Housing Manager as required.
- Identify and report resident, maintenance, safety, or operational concerns to the Housing Manager.
- Support residents with discharge planning and their transition to independent or long-term housing.
- Provide case-management updates, referrals, outcomes, and other information required for monthly program reporting.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and program planning as required.

Maintain confidentiality, professional boundaries, and trauma-informed practices when working with residents.
Role Boundaries and Escalation
The Case Worker is responsible for day-to-day case management and resident support. Decisions related to program eligibility, serious incidents, significant safety or security concerns, major policy issues, or matters requiring management approval should be brought to the Housing Manager.
The Case Worker is expected to recognize when a situation falls outside the scope of the role and seek guidance from the Housing Manager when needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Degree or diploma in Social Services, Social Work, Psychology, Community Services, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 2–3 years of relevant experience in case management and supporting individuals impacted by human trafficking, gender-based violence, intimate partner violence, trauma, or housing instability.
- Demonstrated knowledge of human trafficking and gender-based violence, including an understanding of the needs and barriers experienced by survivors.
- Knowledge and practical understanding of trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive approaches.
- Knowledge of Housing stability, transitional housing and approaches to supporting women transitioning toward stable and independent housing.
- Experience completing assessments, Individual Action Plans, referrals, case notes, and other client documentation.
- Experience supporting clients with housing, healthcare, mental health, legal, immigration, settlement, employment, education, and other community-service needs.
- Familiarity with community resources, housing support, and social-service systems in Toronto is an asset.
- Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, advocacy, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries, and recognize when concerns need to be escalated to the Housing Manager.

Education and Certifications
- Training in trauma-informed care, gender-based violence, human trafficking, crisis intervention, or related areas is an asset.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is required or must be obtained within the first three months of employment.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) is required
Working Conditions
- Part-time, three days per week, in person [21 hours]
- Working hours are based on residents’ needs and may vary, generally from Mon-Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm
- Work takes place in a transitional residential housing environment.
- Regular interaction with women and families who may be experiencing complex or sensitive circumstances.

Responsibilities include resident meetings, case-management activities, documentation, referrals, and communication with community agencies and service providers.

Some local travel for appointments, meetings, referrals, or community-based activities may occasionally be required.

The position requires the ability to maintain professional boundaries and respond calmly and appropriately to sensitive or challenging situations.
Reporting

The Case Worker reports directly to the Housing Manager and works closely with Aurora House/ MNLC team.

Regular communication with the Housing Manager is expected regarding resident progress, significant concerns, and situations requiring additional direction, approval, or follow-up.
