Job Overview:
The Prep Cook is responsible for completing a wide range of ingredient preparation tasks, including washing, peeling, slicing, trimming, chopping, weighing, mixing, and organizing ingredients. This role ensures that all ingredients are stored, labeled, and rotated correctly to maintain freshness and support consistent production flow.
You will play an essential role in supporting the kitchen team and helping maintain the quality, consistency, and efficiency required to meet UpMeals production standards. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, accuracy in following recipes, and the ability to work in a fast paced night shift environment.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work effectively with the kitchen and production team while following all company procedures and food safety policies.
- Report directly to the Production Manager and communicate clearly with the production team throughout the shift.
- Set up and prepare your workstation with the required tools, equipment, and ingredients, maintaining cleanliness and organization at all times.
- Read and accurately follow standardized recipes, batch instructions, and production sheets.
- Perform food preparation tasks including washing, peeling, slicing, trimming, chopping, mixing, measuring, and portioning ingredients.
- Cook rice and chicken, including frying and other approved cooking methods, in accordance with established recipes and quality standards.
- Prepare components such as dressings, sauces, and batch ingredients following company instructions.
- Ensure all ingredients and prepared items are properly tagged, labeled, covered, stored, and rotated using FIFO practices to maintain freshness and minimize waste.
- Monitor ingredient levels and notify the Production Manager when restocking or replenishment is required.
- Maintain clean and sanitary utensils, equipment, and work areas throughout the shift.
- Safely operate kitchen equipment including knives, blenders, Robot Coupe processors, immersion blenders, fryers, and vacuum sealers.
- Assist with end-of-shift duties such as stock checks, restocking, waste disposal, and bin clearing.
- Support additional production and prep tasks as required to ensure smooth and efficient overnight operations.
Requirements for the job:
- Previous experience as a prep cook, kitchen assistant, or food production worker is an asset (training will be provided).
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to consistently follow recipes, portioning guidelines, and production instructions.
- Basic knowledge of food preparation techniques, including cutting, chopping, cooking rice and chicken, and safe knife handling.
- Commitment to cleanliness, food safety, and quality standards in a production kitchen environment.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, production sheets, and shift schedules.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 40 lbs, and perform repetitive prep and cooking tasks.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, including handling hot equipment and wearing required PPE.
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the production team.
- Positive attitude and willingness to support additional kitchen and production tasks as needed.

Pay: $19.00-$22.00 per hour
