Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Robotic Spray-Painting System Technician / Operator to manage our automated finishing line for residential and commercial doors. In this role, you will program robotic spray paths and manage automated conveyor feeds to ensure consistent, high-quality application of primers, topcoats, and specialized finishes across various steel and fiberglass slabs and other components.
Key Responsibilities
- System Operation: Run automated spray lines and conveyor systems specifically calibrated for heavy steel sheets and textured fiberglass slabs.
- Robot Programming: Adjust robot spray paths as needed to smoothly coat complex slab geometries, deeply embossed panels, and narrow door edges.
- Material & Fluid Prep: Mix, thin, and monitor industrial coatings (such as high-durability primers, water-based paint) to exact viscosity standards.
- Quality Inspection: Inspect finished surfaces for common defects like runs, sags, pinholes, orange peel, or dust contamination to ensure a premium, durable finish.
- Equipment Care: Perform daily cleaning, flushing, and preventive maintenance on high-efficiency spray guns, fluid lines, mixing pumps, and booth filters.
- Troubleshooting: Rapidly diagnose and clear robotic errors, nozzle clogs, or fluid pressure drops to maximize daily production uptime.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2+ years of experience operating industrial robotic paint or automated coating systems in metal fabrication, fiberglass molding, or automotive assembly.
- Experience with water-based paint systems.
- Technical Savvy: Familiarity with industrial robot controllers (FANUC) and automated material handling systems.
- Coating Knowledge: Strong understanding of industrial primers, chemical bonding agents, and how steel vs. fiberglass surfaces react to temperature and humidity during application and curing.
- Detail Oriented: Ability to recognize subtle finish defects and adjust spray atomization, fluid pressure, or fan patterns instantly.
- Physical Demands: Capacity to stand for long shifts, lift to 50 lbs, and comfortably wear required respiratory and coveralls.
- Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification or degree is a major asset.
