Your Opportunity:
The SCADA engineer will play a critical role in designing, developing, and commissioning SCADA systems and automation solutions for utility, renewable energy, and industrial applications. This role requires strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines to ensure the successful delivery of complex projects.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Electrical and Automation Design: Design, implement, test, and support electrical and automation systems for the company’s products, ensuring they meet project specifications and industry standards.
- Component Selection: Select and qualify electrical components for use in SCADA and automation systems, ensuring compatibility and reliability.
- PLC Programming and Controls: Perform PLC logic and programming duties, introduce improvements to control systems, and ensure program completeness through rigorous testing.
- SCADA System Design: Develop SCADA system designs including AC/DC distribution, panel layout and wiring, communication block diagrams, protocol mapping, and other logical connection diagrams.
- Field SCADA Commissioning: Lead field commissioning for SCADA systems, including RTUs, HMIs, remote I/O, network switches, and other SCADA devices.
- System Integration and Collaboration: Work closely with mechanical and electrical teams to define and implement functional systems, ensuring clear communication and coordinated efforts across engineering, production, and customer service teams.
- Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving: Troubleshoot and resolve issues in electrical designs, automation systems, and control failures, providing recommendations for preventive measures.
- Documentation: Create and maintain detailed wiring diagrams, drawings, system documentation, control narratives, and logic descriptions.
- Project Management: Provide estimates of development time and resources, contribute to project planning, and manage tasks
- IoT System Development: Develop and maintain IoT remote monitoring systems for equipment, including internal and client-facing dashboards.
Your Capabilities and Credentials

- Able to demonstrate solid technical understanding in writing and verbally
- Ability to visualize and evaluate equipment details, phase-to-ground, phase-to-phase clearances, and drawing relationships
- Intermediate level experience and knowledge of protection and control systems within substations, power systems and renewable energy systems
- Ability to manage and deliver Engineering deliverables as per project schedule and within budget
- Ability to work closely with Drafters, Engineers and Leads to meet with project timelines for engineering deliverables
- Ability to understand client specific requirements (standards & specifications) and applicable codes & regulations for preparing physical electrical packages
- Travel may be required but is not anticipated to be more often than 8 days per month
- Well developed writing skills, able to communicate complex technical concepts in emails and reports.
- Ability to work with designers and drafters to develop CAD drawings.
- Proficient with standard office software such as MS Excel, MS Word, Adobe Acrobat
- Operating knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code and other relevant design standards.
- Ability to attend site visits and capture all technical data needed for estimates and execution of related substation expansions
- Experience in developing drawing packages, specifications and construction work packages
Education and Experience
- Bachelor Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Field experience commissioning and configuring RTUs/PLCs
- Familiarization with industrial communication protocols
- Experience with traditional programming languages an asset
- IT experience configuring networking apparatus as asset (CCNA/CCNP/CISSP)
