Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Supervisor to oversee and coordinate construction projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of construction processes, and proficiency with industry-standard management. This role involves supervising on-site activities, ensuring quality standards, maintaining safety protocols, and managing project timelines and budgets. The Construction Supervisor will play a pivotal role in delivering projects efficiently while adhering to client specifications and regulatory requirements.
Role and Responsibilities
A construction supervisor is the on-site leader responsible for managing construction projects from start to finish. Key duties include:
- Supervising construction crews and coordinating multiple trades to ensure work progresses efficiently and according to schedule
- Inspecting sites to verify compliance with architectural plans, engineering specifications, building codes, and safety regulations
- Scheduling and coordinating subcontractors and managing the sequencing of tasks to prevent delays
- Procurement and logistics of materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and proper handling
- Safety management, including implementing site-specific safety programs, conducting weekly toolbox meetings, and reporting violations
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution to address delays, design discrepancies, or on-site emergencies
- Communication with stakeholders, including project managers, architects, engineers, and clients, providing updates on progress and challenges
- Documentation, maintaining daily logs of workforce attendance, work completed, and incidents for project records
Qualifications and Skills
- Education: A high school diploma is the minimum, though many employers prefer a Red Seal Carpenter with construction management, or a related field
- Experience: Several years of hands-on construction experience, often starting in entry-level roles and progressing to supervisory positions
- Certifications: OSHA safety training, Certified Construction Manager (CCM), or other relevant certifications can enhance employability
- Skills:
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; ability to prioritize tasks, delegate effectively, and manage multiple teams
- Supervise daily construction activities, ensuring work is completed safely, on time, and within budget
- Coordinate with project managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to facilitate smooth operations
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and construction documents to guide project execution
- Strong knowledge of quality control procedures and safety regulations in the construction industry
- Monitor project progress and prepare detailed reports on milestones, delays, or issues
- Enforce safety protocols and conduct regular safety meetings to maintain a safe work environment
- Manage procurement of materials and equipment as needed for project phases
- Provide mentorship and supervision to onsite personnel, ensuring adherence to project plans and specifications
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Supervising experience in commercial construction projects preferred
