Detailed Overview: The Unit Clerk performs a variety of receptionist, clerical and record keeping functions, including transcription of physicians' orders, compiling admission charts, scheduling patient appointments and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies in accordance with the mission, values and goals of Fraser Health. Responsibilities:
- Performs admitting/discharge duties by entering information into the ADT system, ensures that admission forms are complete, including preferred accommodation requests, when appropriate.
- Transcribes physicians' orders by copying information, completing required forms and/or entering information into the computer and distributing in accordance with established procedures.
- Schedules resident appointments and arranges transportation by contacting appropriate departments, physician's offices or outside agencies and maintaining related records.
- Porters residents and reports changes in resident's condition to the care team.
- Maintains resident records according to established procedures by setting up charts, adding or removing forms and forwarding discharged resident records to Health Records.
- Performs reception duties such as greeting visitors, answering the telephone, taking messages, answering routine enquiries or referring as appropriate.
- Arranges for relief staff as directed and according to pre-determined guidelines.
- Performs timekeeping duties and forwards to payroll for processing. Responds to payroll related inquiries as appropriate.
- Performs clerical duties such as typing, taking minutes, photocopying and filing. Opens and/or distributes mail, packages and stores supplies.
- Maintains stationary and supply levels by monitoring stock, preparing stores requisitions, obtaining supplies as needed and restocking supplies when delivered. Completes equipment repair and maintenance orders as directed.
- Attends meetings and participates in the program's continuous quality improvement activities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Grade 12, medical terminology and graduation from a recognized Nursing Unit Clerk program plus one (1) year's recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
