The Education Program at Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton is dedicated to supporting children with developmental disabilities in achieving meaningful success throughout their formative school years. The Principal serves as an educational leader, providing strategic direction, supervision, and support to the school team at Jim Jiwani Autism Academy while fostering a collaborative, student-focused, and family-centered culture that promotes excellence in teaching, learning, and student outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and support for a school-wide, interactive educational program utilizing the SCERTS model, ensuring alignment with Alberta Education curriculum requirements and best practices
- Provide operational leadership and oversight for the assigned school, ensuring the delivery of high-quality educational, instructional, and support services to students and families while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence
- Lead, mentor, and support teaching staff, teacher mentors, and clinicians to ensure instructional practices and classroom activities effectively meet the diverse needs of individual students and the learning community as a whole
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and growth opportunities, including those offered through Children’s Autism Services of Edmonton, AISCA, and other relevant professional organizations
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate program priorities, strategic initiatives, and operational plans, including staffing, enrollment management, and budget oversight
- Complete all required annual reporting, including the Annual Education Plan and Annual Education Results Report, ensuring compliance with Alberta Education requirements
- Coordinate and oversee student assessment, evaluation, and reporting processes to support student achievement and informed educational decision-making
- Oversee teacher supervision and evaluation processes, ensuring compliance with certification requirements, the Education Act, and the Leadership Quality Standard
- Support and guide teacher mentors in the development, implementation, and review of Teacher Growth Plans to promote professional excellence and continuous improvement among teaching staff
- Provide leadership and coordination for school events, community engagement activities, and special initiatives
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor of education or equivalent and valid Alberta teaching certificate
- 5+ years of direct experience in a special needs setting or equivalent
- Completion of Alberta Leadership Quality Certification (or in the process of attaining leadership certification)
- Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Check
- Intervention Record Check Required
- Safe Management Training (Provided), CPR and First Aid certification Required
- Access to a reliable vehicle
