Position Title: Transitional Shelter Team Lead

We are seeking experienced, compassionate, and grounded leaders to join our team as This role combines direct frontline support with shift leadership responsibilities, helping to maintain safe operations while mentoring staff and supporting guests in a trauma-informed, client-centered environment.
Position Overview
The Transitional Shelter Team Lead provides direct support to guests while overseeing shift operations and ensuring continuity of care. Team Leads model strong practice, provide frontline leadership, support crisis response, and contribute to a safe, respectful, and healing-centered environment.
This position requires flexibility and availability for rotating shifts, including overnights, weekends, and statutory holidays.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Support & Advocacy
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with guests through a trauma-informed and non-judgmental approach.
- Support women in identifying goals related to housing, wellness, recovery, and community connection.
- Conduct intake, orientation, and ongoing support planning with guests.
- Provide practical and emotional support while maintaining professional boundaries.
Shift Leadership
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff on shift, ensuring smooth daily operations.
- Support and mentor frontline staff in service delivery, crisis response, and documentation.
- Ensure policies, procedures, and program expectations are consistently followed.
- Act as the point of contact for emergent issues during assigned shifts.
Safety & Crisis Response
- Maintain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for guests and staff.
- Respond to crisis situations using de-escalation, conflict resolution, and trauma-informed intervention.
- Complete incident documentation and follow reporting protocols.
- Liaise with emergency responders, community partners, and internal leadership as needed.
Program Operations
- Support day-to-day shelter operations including routines, guest meetings, meal coordination, wellness checks, and household operations.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and professional documentation.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness, organization, and shared living expectations.
- Support transportation and community-based appointments as needed.
Community Connections
- Connect guests to community resources including housing, income supports, healthcare, legal supports, and cultural services.
- Foster positive working relationships with external partners and service providers.
- Support guests in navigating systems and reducing barriers to long-term stability.
Team Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with shelter staff, outreach teams, case managers, and leadership.
- Participate in regular supervision, training, and professional development.
- Contribute to a culture of accountability, compassion, and continuous learning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Values and practice alignment with the mission of the Elizabeth Fry Society of Northern Alberta.
- Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in shelter, housing, outreach, or related human services.
- Post-secondary education in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of homelessness, trauma, substance use, mental health, and gender-based violence.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated respect for Indigenous Social History and culturally responsive practice.
- Demonstrated familiarity with harm reduction principles and Housing First approaches.
- Strong crisis intervention, de-escalation, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment.
Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
- Reliable personal vehicle available for work purposes
- Minimum $2 million liability insurance
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- Current Naloxone / Narcan Use certification
- Valid Food Handling Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
- Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Flexible availability for rotating shifts

Pay: $24.00-$28.50 per hour
