Overview
We are seeking skilled and dependable TUNNELMAN/CARGO MAINTENANCE technician to join our team. This role involves maintaining and repairing tunnel and cargo systems, ensuring operational safety and efficiency. Often responsible for securing the ship’s cargo and also assists with the preparation and testing of all gates prior to cargo loading and ensures environmental management procedures are followed properly.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on tunnel and cargo handling systems
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, and other industrial machinery
- Conduct repairs using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and schematics
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on various types of equipment
- Assist with assembly, installation, and modification of machinery components
- Maintain detailed maintenance logs and documentation for all repairs and inspections
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and operational standards
- Support emergency repairs to minimize downtime and maintain safety standards
- Collaborate with team members to improve maintenance procedures and system reliability
Requirements
- Proven experience with heavy equipment operation including excavators, cranes, forklifts, or similar machinery
- mechanical knowledge with experience in welding, electrical systems, HVAC, or automotive repair preferred
- Familiarity with schematics, technical manuals, and diagnostic tools for troubleshooting complex systems
- Hands-on experience with hand tools, power tools, or industrial equipment maintenance
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and operate heavy machinery efficiently
- Mechanical or electrical background; dealership experience or mechanic experience is advantageous
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Valid Canadian Passport (or a C1D Visa if you are a Permanent Resident with a passport from another country).
- Valid Transport Canada Marine Medical Examination Fitness Card.
- Transport Canada Discharge Book – Contact your local Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security office to obtain this.
- STCW Basic Safety Training
- Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boats) (preferred)
- Marine Basic First Aid
- Vessel Personnel with Designated Security Duties (preferred)
