The Estimating Lead is responsible for leading and coordinating MSCP's estimating activities across the organization, supporting opportunities ranging from engineering and manufacturing to construction, maintenance, field services, and multidisciplinary project delivery.
The position provides technical and commercial leadership throughout the estimating process, ensuring estimates are accurate, competitive, executable, and supported by clear assumptions, risks, and execution strategies.
The Estimating Lead works across MSCP to bring together the information required to develop strong estimates. This includes working closely with Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations, Project Management, Business Development, and other technical specialists to understand scope, determine execution requirements, develop pricing, and identify commercial and operational risk.
Lead and coordinate estimating activities across MSCP's engineering, manufacturing, construction, maintenance, field service, and multidisciplinary opportunities.
Develop estimates ranging from smaller service and fabrication work to complex, multidisciplinary project opportunities.
Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, client documentation, RFQs, RFPs, bid packages, and other technical and commercial information.
Develop and/or coordinate labour, material, equipment, engineering, manufacturing, subcontractor, logistics, and indirect cost estimates.
Perform and review quantity take-offs, material requirements, labour calculations, production assumptions, and execution requirements.
Establish estimating strategies, methodologies, labour assumptions, productivity factors, production rates, and pricing approaches.
Coordinate estimating input from Engineering, Procurement, Manufacturing, Operations, Project Management, Business Development, and technical specialists.
Review estimates for completeness, consistency, accuracy, competitiveness, and commercial risk.
Solicit, review, and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
Identify scope gaps, risks, assumptions, exclusions, qualifications, and potential commercial exposure.
Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative technical or execution strategies.
Lead or participate in estimate reviews, bid strategy discussions, commercial reviews, and proposal development.
Support bid/no-bid and pricing decisions by providing clear information regarding cost, risk, capacity, schedule, and execution requirements.
Ensure estimating assumptions, commitments, and commercial considerations are effectively transferred to execution teams following award.
Maintain and continuously improve estimating databases, historical costs, labour units, production rates, supplier pricing, and estimating tools.
Compare estimated costs and assumptions against actual project and production results to improve future estimating accuracy.
Develop and improve estimating standards, templates, procedures, and digital workflows.
Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to employees contributing to estimates across the organization.
Support the development of estimating capability by sharing knowledge, historical information, lessons learned, and best practices.
Work with Business Development and operational leaders to understand upcoming opportunities, priorities, capacity, and resource requirements.
Support MSCP's systemic methodology by ensuring estimating decisions consider the performance of the organization as a whole rather than optimizing individual functions in isolation.
5+ years of progressive estimating, project controls, project coordination, manufacturing, construction, engineering, or related commercial experience.
Demonstrated experience developing and/or reviewing detailed cost estimates.
Experience estimating work involving combinations of labour, materials, equipment, engineering, manufacturing, subcontractors, logistics, and indirect costs.
Experience coordinating technical and commercial input from multiple stakeholders or disciplines.
Previous experience providing technical guidance, mentorship, or leadership within an estimating, project, manufacturing, engineering, or operational environment is preferred.
Experience within industrial services, manufacturing, fabrication, engineering, construction, maintenance, energy, or other project-based environments is considered an asset.
Experience supporting opportunities from initial scope development and estimating through execution and estimate-to-actual review is considered an asset.
Strong understanding of estimating and cost-development principles across project and service-based work.
Strong commercial awareness and ability to understand how scope, schedule, productivity, procurement, manufacturing, execution strategy, and risk affect cost.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, scopes of work, technical documentation, and commercial requirements.
Ability to identify scope gaps, estimating uncertainty, commercial risk, and execution challenges.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Experience with estimating, ERP, manufacturing, or project management software is considered an asset.
Procore experience is considered an asset.
