Outdoor Educator
Program: Revelstoke After School Society (British Columbia)
Immediate Supervisor: Center Manager
(September – June) 2pm - 6pm following the District 19 school calendar, including early dismissals and Pro D day’s
Work Hours: 12 - 16 hours per week (Monday- Friday)
The hours worked daily will vary depending on when all children are picked up and all duties are completed; with a minimum of 2 hours/ day.
: $21/ Hour (Bi-weekly paychecks)
- 3 month probationary period
- Paid training
- Reimbursement of mandatory certifications after one year of employment
To create a happy and safe environment for children after school 90% outdoors and 10% indoors.
As well as, but not limited to:
- Develop and plan activities that incorporate program goals into the daily routine
- Becoming the link between participant and nature
- To provide participants with the appropriate leadership during the program
- Prepare activities that are developmentally appropriate for the age of the children
- Maintain a safe environment for participants while allowing risky play
- Provide a warm and caring atmosphere for participants
- Communicate with the parents through daily pick‐up of their child's progress
- Attend staff meetings and trainings
- Pediatric/ children’s first Aid certifications (or an interest in obtaining it)
- Responsible Adult certification (can obtain within the first 2 weeks of employment)
- Criminal check done via the licensing interior health website - can obtain once hired
- 19 years or older
- Previous experience working in a childcare facility/center demonstrating/modeling healthy and positive behaviours
- Post secondary schooling in teaching, outdoor education, or something that is similar in nature
- Proven experience and interest working creatively outdoors with young children with a range of abilities and backgrounds
- Recent experience planning, developing and implementing a variety of recreational, social, life skills and/or parenting programming and activities for young children
- Experience working effectively in a team environment
- Demonstrated work ethic and the ability to maintain professional confidentiality
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Well-organized and able to be part of a teaching team
