Job Title: Disability Support Worker
Responsibilities:
- Develop meaningful relationships with individuals with disabilities to provide support and assistance
- Serve as a vocal advocate for individuals within the community, ensuring their needs are met and rights are preserved
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors, team members, and support networks to facilitate the achievement of individual goals
- Design, implement, and assess programs tailored to the specific needs of each individual
- Maintain accurate and detailed daily documentation to track progress and ensure continuity of care
- Engage with individuals in recreational and leisure activities to promote social interaction and well-being
- Carry out administrative tasks and uphold cleanliness standards to support the smooth operation of the residential setting
- Provide guidance, evaluation, and training to staff members to enhance their skills and performance
- Contribute to ongoing program development to continuously improve services offered
- Communicate effectively with other relevant professionals to ensure coordinated care and optimum outcomes
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in directly supporting individuals with disabilities, showcasing empathy, patience, and understanding
- Proficiency in behavior management techniques to address and manage challenging situations effectively
- Experience with Non-violent Crisis Intervention is highly valued for crisis resolution and prevention
- Prior work experience in a residential setting is an advantage, demonstrating familiarity with the dynamics of such environments
- Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license and auto insurance with at least $2 million third-party liability coverage to facilitate transportation needs
- Strong English language skills to effectively communicate and engage with individuals and team members
Training & Clearances:
- Up-to-date security clearance check including Vulnerable Sector Search conducted within the last 6 months
- Recent Children's Services Intervention Record Check to ensure suitability for working with vulnerable populations
- Possession of Standard First Aid certification with CPR training to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies
- Completion of Suicide Awareness or Suicide Intervention training to equip individuals with necessary knowledge and skills
- Cultural Awareness training to enhance understanding and sensitivity towards diverse populations
- Medication administration training provided by the employer to handle medication-related tasks safely
Compensation:
- Hourly wage ranging from $18.00 to $21.00 for a minimum of 36-44 hours per week, with rates adjusted based on education, experience, and qualifications
