Based at our Calgary plant location, we are hiring a permanent, full time Chief Engineer. This role is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and monitoring all steam plant systems, equipment, as well as other utilities throughout the facility including air compressors, compressed air piping/hookups, water piping and mixing stations, steam and condensate piping, air scrubbing and odour control equipment, and waste water systems. The Chief Engineers ensure that WCRL follows Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) regulations and acts as the main point of contact for ABSA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate and maintain all steam plant equipment, and ensure that boilers and pressure parts comply with ABSA and WCRL standards
- Ensure daily operating plans are communicated and executed including the maintenance work order process for the steam plant, waste water, air compression, fire suppression, and air pollution departments, including wash stations and plant steam lines
- Manage and schedule steam plant shift operators, and schedule documents for all necessary safety testing and maintenance
- Provide recommendations for improvements to equipment and processes
- Provide troubleshooting and problem-solving solutions for the general repair of systems and equipment to achieve manufacturing objectives
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and employee performance management of the steam engineers
- Maintain liaison between the steam plant, site management, procurement and maintenance, plant chemical supplier technical representatives, insurance providers and the City of Calgary
- Participate and/or initiate in the toolbox meetings, and in the daily, weekly, and long-term planning processes to ensure the department is maintained in a reliable manner and complies with regulations
- Maintain maintenance equipment and department technical training materials
- Ensure operators have the knowledge, experience, and current procedures required to operate the plan in a safe and efficient manner
- Ensure odor control systems are operating within parameters established by Alberta Environment
- Perform shift work based on company business needs which evolve and change in response to customer demands
- Work overtime as instructed to ensure minimal downtime of facilities
- Adhere to the company Code of Conduct and all West Coast Reduction Ltd. policies

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Possession of a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean abstract
- Possession of a valid Class 2 Power Engineering Certificate
- 7 years of progressive experience in a plant operation environment (production, maintenance, quality, safety, environmental compliance, people management and administration) or similar industry
- Mechanically inclined and able to perform routine maintenance tasks
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, with excellent communication skills
- Computer literacy, knowledgeable of Microsoft Office suite of applications
- Ability to read or interpret diagrams, schematic drawings and manuals to determine work procedures
- Ability to frequently move, carry, lift, push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs without assistance and occasionally greater with assistance
- Perform repetitive motions including bending, kneeling, crouching, climbing and reaching overhead above the shoulders daily
- Adaptable to adverse conditions including confined space, heights, cold weather, odours and animal by-products
