· Maintain harmonious labour relations through skillful people management and by providing counsel and guidance to management and colleagues. Administers union contract and participates in step one grievances, arbitrations and collective bargaining.
· Maintain positive working relationship with the Union Representative and Shop Stewards.
· Assist departments in disciplinary counselling and terminations as well as investigation of any colleague related issue in the workplace when required.
· Ensures relevant sections of the Colleague Handbook are kept up to date,
· Identify policy and communication needs and assist in the drafting and implementation process with the Director, Human Resources.
· Control costs in areas responsible to ensure performance against budget.
· Monitor applicable laws and regulations and ensure compliance.
· Participates in the Lobby Duty and Weekend Managers program.
· Maintains grievance log and statistical data.
· Monitor benefit programs and make recommendations for changes.
· Co-ordinates and participates in joint Union/Management meetings.
· Assists talent acquisition process, interviewing candidates, checking references, and providing support to Departmental Managers
· Investigate all workplace injuries and implement necessary changes in an attempt to prevent further accidents based on accident statistics
· Provide regular WHMIS, Fire, and Health and Safety training to ensure employee safety, including all new hire colleagues.
· Attend and Co-Chair all monthly Health & Safety Meetings as well as manage monthly action plans.
· Maintain the Health & Safety communication board with relevant information and meeting minute updates
· Administer the return to work program for workers assigned to modified work duties, liaising with medical personnel, WSIB Adjudicators, Departmental Managers
· Meet with Ministry of Labour inspectors and ensure follow-up of safety infractions and MOL orders.
· Manage and conduct safety and HSMS audits for the hotel.
· Ensures departmental/Hotel KPIs that are their responsibility, are met
· Abides by all the hotel policies and procedures as outlined in the colleague handbook, including confidentiality undertaking.
