Pool Maintenance – Engineering
Role Summary
Reporting to the Engineering Leadership Team, this position is responsible for maintaining pool and aquatic environments to ensure a safe, clean, and exceptional guest experience in accordance with JW Marriott brand standards and Leading Quality Assurance (LQA) service expectations. This role supports the operation, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of all pools, hot tubs, and related equipment while contributing to a luxury resort environment through proactive maintenance and genuine guest interactions.
Accountabilities
- Perform a variety of maintenance procedures related to swimming pools and hot tubs, including heaters, filters, pumps, motors, cleaning systems, automatic controls, and electrical systems
- Monitor, test, and maintain chlorine, pH, and other water chemistry levels to ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations
- Create memorable guest experiences by maintaining aquatic facilities in pristine operating condition and responding professionally to guest inquiries and concerns
- Clean, sweep, and vacuum pool gutters, walls, surfaces, and bottoms to maintain cleanliness and water quality standards
- Inspect gauges and operating systems to ensure proper water circulation and pool water levels are maintained
- Maintain accurate records of water testing, chemical levels, inspections, maintenance activities, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Maintain the cleanliness, presentation, and safety of all aquatic areas, including pool decks, walkways, and surrounding guest spaces
- Perform repairs and preventative maintenance to pool decks, aquatic equipment, and related infrastructure as required
- Clean sand filters, backwash systems, pool strainers, and associated equipment according to established maintenance schedules
- Test and inspect pool safety equipment to ensure proper functionality and compliance with safety standards
- Install and remove pool covers during seasonal operations and maintain safe access pathways around aquatic facilities during winter months
- Welcome and acknowledge each guest with a warm smile, eye contact, and a genuine verbal greeting, using the guest name whenever possible
- Respond to guest questions regarding aquatic facilities, resort amenities, and operational procedures in a professional and courteous manner
- Support seasonal opening and shutdown procedures for pools, hot tubs, and related systems
- Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately and adhere to all safe work practices while handling chemicals, equipment, and maintenance tasks
- Assist the Engineering Department with snow removal and other property maintenance tasks as required
- Follow all company safety, security, and operational procedures and actively participate in health and safety programs
- Report hazards, equipment deficiencies, accidents, injuries, or unsafe working conditions to management immediately
- Maintain a professional appearance and work environment consistent with JW Marriott luxury hospitality standards
- Adhere to all environmental policies, sustainability initiatives, and responsible chemical handling practices as required
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Possession of a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification considered an asset and required within 90 days of employment
- WHMIS certification required
- Standard First Aid certification, including CPR-C and AED awareness, required
- Hotel, resort, building operations, or facility maintenance experience required
- Knowledge of pool operations, water chemistry, filtration systems, pumps, and preventative maintenance practices preferred
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance
- Ability to troubleshoot maintenance issues and respond effectively to operational concerns
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced resort environment
- Ability to anticipate guest needs and deliver service consistent with JW Marriott and LQA luxury hospitality standards
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work in hot, humid, cold, and outdoor environments
- Must be able to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Required to move, lift, carry, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance
- Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time or for an entire shift
- Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, and pulling
- Move through narrow, confined, or elevated spaces
- Move over sloping, uneven, or slippery surfaces
