PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead automation projects on site in support of the site’s Digital and Smart Automation strategy
Perform the design, installation, and commissioning of site equipment and associated control systems
Seek out potential process or system improvements and implement to completion.
Provide technical and troubleshooting support for automation and control systems
Support deviation investigations and CAPA development, utilizing structured problem-solving methods (i.e., Root Cause Analysis)
Develop and maintain site automation procedures and standards (e.g., SOP)
Support ongoing development of site technicians by developing and delivery training programs for automation platforms
Participate in site change control procedures either as change owner or as technical reviewer
Prepare computer validation (e.g., IQ/OQ/DQ) and lifecycle documentation (e.g., URS/FS/DS) for GxP automation systems (production or facilities)
Maintain computer system configuration records (e.g., version control, backups, user access lists) per GSK-approved procedures
Use engineering judgement and available information to identify best solution from multiple alternatives
Represent the company in technical conversations with vendors and internal stakeholders
Proactively identify and mitigate risks related to safety, quality and supply
Maintain professional and technical knowledge
Maintain product and company reputation by complying with all applicable regulatory requirements and GSK policies and procedures

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Four-year engineering degree (electrical, computer or industrial preferred) with 5 or more years in a professional engineering role OR advanced engineering degree (electrical, computer or industrial preferred) with 3 or more years in a professional engineering role
P.Eng. (Ontario) accredited or eligible
Hands-on experience programming PLC, HMI and SCADA systems
Experience managing automation/control system projects throughout entire project lifecycle
Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment
Ability to work occasionally on holiday shutdowns and weekends, as required

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in a Pharmaceutical/GxP environment
Experience in a packaging or manufacturing environment
Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider/Modicon and/or Wonderware automation platforms
Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS), Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Environmental Monitoring Systems (EMS)
Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), e.g., Aspentech
Experience working with automations systems in a client-server architecture
Knowledge of control networking protocols, e.g., Ethernet, Modbus, Profibus
Experience with robotic process automation
