The Water & Wastewater Technician (WWW) program at NAIT is a one-year certificate program designed to prepare students for the water and wastewater industry. The program has an opening for a full-time Educational Laboratory Technologist. Following the direction of the program's academic leadership, this position will support the program instructional staff in delivering laboratory classes and keeping the lab spaces safe, clean, organized, and operational. The successful candidate will provide technical support, including setting up, dismantling, and rearranging laboratory setups and equipment, both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate weekly lab configurations and follow-on setup with instructional staff.
- Collect water and wastewater samples from treatment facilities in Alberta.
- Inspect and maintain specialized equipment such as tapping machines, cutting tools, hydrants, pumps, meters, chemical feed equipment and valves to ensure fully operational condition.
- Operate and inspect various displays, such as process simulation equipment.
- Calibrate and troubleshoot precision lab equipment.
- Implement inventory control of small power/pneumatic/cordless tools and accessories.
- Ensure lab materials, consumables, and supplies are ordered, handled, and stored.
- Assist with developing and documenting safety protocols, including participating in various Health and Safety Committees.
Skills & Abilities:
- Have a strong mechanical aptitude.
- Computer skills including use of Microsoft Office and Peoplesoft.
- Be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs (23 kg).
Qualifications:
- Two-year related Diploma as well as course work and experience in water/wastewater operations. WWWT Certificate or equivalent, and/ or Water and Wastewater Provincial Certification will be considered an asset.
- A valid Class 5 driver’s license and will be required to provide a driver’s abstract.
Applicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).
Remuneration: $51,138.62 - $69,092.14 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package. (Classification – Educational Laboratory Technologist II).
This position is covered by the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees (AUPE) Collective Agreement.
