The Opportunity
The Recreation Manager is responsible for leading and delivering Recreation Services to residents within the facility. This role works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care team to support resident-centred care plans and ensure recreation programming meets the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical needs of residents.
What You Will Do
Assess resident needs, preferences, and interests to support meaningful engagement in recreation programming.
Design and oversee recreation programs that reflect individual and neighbourhood-level assessments.
Develop and implement proactive programming strategies that support positive behaviours and reduce escalation.
Deliver and support therapeutic recreation interventions that promote resident participation and quality of life.
Ensure programming provides a balanced approach, including cognitive stimulation, social engagement, physical activity, and leisure opportunities.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and contribute to resident care conferences and care planning discussions.
Monitor and support resident and family satisfaction with recreation services.
Set expectations and support resident participation in meaningful recreation opportunities on a regular basis.
Lead, coach, and support recreation staff and volunteers to achieve departmental goals and service standards.
Manage recreation department operations, including scheduling, reporting, and budget oversight.
What You Bring
Completion of a Recreation Therapy program from a Canadian accredited post-secondary institution.
Eligible for registration with a Canadian Therapeutic Recreation association.
3+ years of experience in recreation therapy or therapeutic recreation within a health care or seniors’ living environment preferred.
2+ years of experience in program planning, implementation, documentation, and evaluation in a seniors’ care setting.
Knowledge of gerontology and person-centred care principles considered an asset.
Familiarity with electronic documentation and care systems (Activity Pro, PointClickCare (PCC), RAI-MDS) considered an asset.
Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to support and motivate a multidisciplinary team.
Strong collaboration, communication, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary care teams and support a culture of resident engagement.
Passion for person-centred care and enhancing quality of life for seniors and residents.
Must be able to provide a current (within six months) Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Record Check, or be willing to obtain one.
