What you'll do
Commercial Management is part of BC Hydro’s Project Delivery business group, bringing together senior professionals with
diverse expertise in areas such as engineering, business administration, economics, accounting, and environmental
science. Commercial Managers play a key role in supporting major capital projects by leading decision analysis, financial
analysis, risk and opportunity assessments, funding requests, regulatory submissions and the development of business
cases. Commercial Managers are specialists in leading the evaluation of project alternatives using BC Hydro’s Structured
Decision Making framework, which involves helping project teams define and evaluate alternatives by understanding the
trade-offs considering decision objectives and criteria. Commercial managers build internal alignment on the selected
alternative and develop clear recommendations and decision support documents that support BC Hydro’s capital plan and
corporate objectives. This role requires the ability to bring together complex technical, financial, regulatory, and business
information into concise, easy-to-understand materials that keep senior leaders and executives informed and support
effective decision-making.
Specific Duties:
- Lead Structured Decision Making processes, including facilitating workshops to identify, evaluate, and recommend project
alternatives, and documenting the analysis in decision documents.
- Develop financial analysis, including Net Present Value models, to support project decision-making.
- Facilitate the identification and assessment of project risks, opportunities, and treatments through risk workshops and
other activities across the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders across BC Hydro to gather, assess, and synthesize technical, financial, regulatory,
environmental, and strategic information.
- Provide strategic advice on project justification and governance in alignment with the BC Hydro’s capital plan and
corporate objectives.
- Draft concise decision-support documents based on research and assessment of complex technical, financial, regulatory,
and business information.
- Support internal funding requests, external funding applications, and regulatory submissions including BCUC applications
and compliance reports.
- Facilitate internal stakeholder engagement and consensus-building to advance project decisions and recommendations.
- Translate complex technical, financial, and business issues into clear recommendations and presentations for senior
management, executives, regulators, and other key stakeholders.
What you bring
- A university degree, preferably in business administration, economics or engineering. Other relevant undergraduate or
graduate degree combinations will also be considered.
- Ten or more years of relevant experience with proven progression in responsibilities over that time.
- Experience with business case development; decision analysis; financial analysis; risk assessment and analysis; project
management; and internal/external stakeholder engagement.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills with the ability to confidently communicate and present to BC Hydro’s
senior management and executives.
