The Salvation Army Ottawa Grace Manor is a licensed Long-Term Care facility built on care, dignity and respect for all. Ottawa Grace Manor has 5 Resident Home Areas with either 25 or 26 beds on each, for a total of 128 residents. The home area on the first floor (Gladstone) is a secure home area. Two home areas are on the second floor (Queen and Parkdale) and two home areas are on the third floor (Wellington and Rosemount). Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Director of Resident Care and as a member of the Interdisciplinary Care Team, the Registered Nurse (RN) carries out nursing functions related to the day to day care of the residents. This includes providing direction to the Registered Practical Nurses (RPN) and the Personal Support Worker (PSW) and delivering direct care to the residents; acts as a Team Leader in each home area. During off-hours, i.e. evenings, nights, and weekends is required to provide facility supervision. Establishes goals and objectives for resident care and assumes responsibility for their attainment.
Qualifications:
- BScN or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Recognized post RN education in gerontology is essential.
- Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Must have a current certification in CPR, Certification in Infection Control (CIC) an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a long term care or similar setting, experience in a team leader position an asset.
- Knowledge and familiarity with computer operations and software applications, including resident records, and staff scheduling.
- 3-5 years experience in Long Term Care or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience an asset.
- Experience working in an interdisciplinary, resident centered approach to care.
- Sound clinical judgement, tact, and personal ability to work cooperatively and effectively with residents, family members, physicians, volunteers and co-workers as a member of an Interdisciplinary Care Team.
- Demonstrated leadership in promoting a resident-centred approach to care.
- Self motivated ability to work, carry out responsibilities with minimum direction, and to use good judgement in making appropriate decisions.
- Excellent communication skills in English, verbal and written.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively, organize department/unit operations, supervise subordinates and evaluate the effectiveness of the Care staff.
- Knowledge and familiarity with computer operations and software applications for resident information.
- Must work closely with/coordinate other disciplines to ensure that residents have their physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs met.
- Ability to attend work and commitment to residents.
Hours of work: Full Time Nights 11:00pm – 7:00am (75hours bi-weekly including every other weekend) Additionally must be available for 2 of 3 shifts, RN shifts operate day 7-3, evening 3-11, Night 11-7
