DESCRIPTION:
Under the direct clinical supervision of a member of the Ontario College of Psychologists, and in collaboration with the Psychiatrist (under the College of Physicians and Surgeons), the Psychometrist provides patient care, including assessment and consultation at Kingston Health Sciences Centre and performs administrative duties.
Within this role the Psychometrist is accountable for contributing to the delivery of the Kingston Health Sciences Centre strategy. As an employee, one must demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for actively promoting and supporting patient and family centered engagement and care in all we do.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Patient Care
Patient care activities are carried out under the clinical supervision of a member of the Ontario College of Psychologists, and in accordance with the regulations of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. On the referral of a physician on the Medical Staff of Kingston Health Sciences Centre, the Psychometrist provides patient care in the form of assessment, and consultation within the areas of their competence.
Assessment: Includes a combination of some or all of the following activities: administering and scoring of test, patient and family interviews and the writing of reports describing the assessment results. Communication of these results to the patient, the family and the team. Communication of a diagnosis by members of the department who do not have access to the controlled act under the Regulated health Professions Act is not expected or permitted.
Consultation: Includes a combination of some or all of the following: Meeting with professional teams to plan and evaluate approaches to the treatment of specific individual patients, participating in team meetings pertaining to individual patient care.
Completes patient care documentation in accordance with established standards and guidelines of the
Hospital and the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
Administrative Duties
- Completes required workload measurement reporting in accordance with current procedures
- Participates in program evaluation and outcome analysis of clinical practice, in conjunction with Hospital continuous quality improvement initiatives
- Assists in the collection of evaluation data for such programs
- Consults with the supervising member of the College of Psychologists of Ontario on significant patient care and risk management issues
- Participates in staff meetings and upon request, contributes to Hospital committees and working groups.
- All other duties assigned by the Program Manager.
The Employee will adhere to the worker responsibilities as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, hospital safety policies, and dept/unit established procedures at all times. Where possible, take corrective action to address a hazard, otherwise report the unresolved hazard, dangerous circumstance, unsafe situation to self, other co-workers or the community, to their supervisor. Should the employee suffer a workplace injury or illness, he/she will advise their supervisor; actively participate in identifying and resolving the underlying cause(s), and participates in early and safe return to work as per Workplace Safety & Insurance Act.
Understands and is familiar with all pertinent KHSC policies and procedures including those relating to workplace conduct. Complies with the KHSC commitment to uphold the Workplace Conduct and Reporting of Inappropriate Conduct policy and behaves in a manner that is consistent with the guiding principles and expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master of Arts or Science in Psychology with a clinical emphasis, and including courses on the development and administration of psychometric instruments.
- Experience administering and scoring psychological tests
- Proficiency in current versions of Microsoft Office software programs.
- Demonstrated ability to participate effectively on a multidisciplinary team.
- Proven ability to attend work regularly.
- Satisfactory criminal reference check and vulnerable sector search required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent will be required to meet the physical demands as described for the area of work.
