Job Overview
The Town of Port Blandford is seeking a dedicated Municipal Maintenance / Equipment Operator to join our public works team. This role is vital to ensuring the smooth operation, safety, and upkeep of our town’s infrastructure, municipal facilities, parks, and heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, experience operating machinery, and the physical capability to handle a variety of outdoor tasks. Duties & Responsibilities
- Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate municipal heavy equipment and machinery (e.g., loaders, tractors, lawn care equipment) for road maintenance, snow clearing, and landscaping.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections on town facilities, public buildings, parks, and water distribution components.
- Routine Upkeep: Conduct seasonal tasks including grass cutting, ditching, brush clearing, and assisting with community space preparations.
- Mechanical Care: Troubleshoot mechanical issues on town vehicles and small engines; perform basic preventative maintenance or coordinate with specialized technicians for major repairs.
- Safety & Compliance: Conduct regular safety checks on equipment and worksites, ensuring strict compliance with municipal occupational health and safety protocols.
- Record Keeping: Maintain clear, daily logs of maintenance activities, equipment hours, water system checks, and completed work orders.
- Emergency Response: Support the town during weather events or infrastructure emergencies by providing timely technical and operational assistance to minimize disruption to residents.
Skills & Qualifications
- Mechanical Knowledge: Strong diagnostic and repair skills for small engines, heavy machinery, and basic building systems (plumbing, carpentry, or electrical knowledge is an asset).
- Equipment Experience: Proven experience operating heavy equipment and attachments safely in a public or commercial setting.
- Physical Capability: Ability to perform heavy lifting, handle physically demanding tasks regularly, and work comfortably outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Community Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or collaborate effectively with town staff and residents.
- Safety First: A solid understanding of safety procedures related to public works, road operations, and tool usage.
- Licensing: Valid driver’s license with appropriate classifications for operating town equipment (appropriate air brake or commercial endorsements preferred).

We are fully willing to train the right candidate on our specific systems, specialized equipment attachments, and localized maintenance processes to ensure your success and safety on the job.
