Job Overview
As a shelter support worker you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals experiencing hardships and homelessness. Your primary responsibility will be to provide support and assistance in daily living activities, fostering independence and promoting personal growth. This position requires a compassionate individual who is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of others.
Duties:
- Responsible for greeting new clients who are admitted on your shift and providing required orientation
- Provide support, assistance, encouragement, referrals to clients
- Enforce agency rules and expectations consistently in accordance with Policies and Procedures
- Ensure all appropriate documentation and recording is maintained at all times
- Assist the manager in developing and implementing productive and appropriate activities/programs for the clients to participate in
- Responsible for the contents, upkeep and tidiness of supplies – including toiletries, linen/towels, binders, files, etc.,
- Liaise with Community Care Workers as required
- Responsible to ensure that clients have adequate supplies of needed items and help them find applicable resources
- Responsible to follow through on all safety and security procedures (including fire) as outlined in the policy and procedures manual
- Make regular rounds throughout the floor
Experience/Qualifications:
- Completion of a two year College Diploma or University Degree in the field of human and or social services is an asset
- Crisis intervention skills is an asset
- First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or willingness to acquire one
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members
- Previous experience in a caregiving or support role is preferred but not required; training will be provided
- A genuine passion for helping others and a commitment to promoting independence among individuals with disabilities.
