The Roller Operator is responsible for the efficient operation of the Breakdown Rollers, Rubber Tire Rollers and Finish Rollers. This role plays an important part in the road construction process at every stage by distributing, breaking down, compressing, and finishing the surface to cool asphalt.

Operate the rollers and other heavy equipment in a safe manner.

Perform daily maintenance and safety checks on equipment.

Determine the speed and direction of the machines so that ridges do not form from excessive pressure.

Use hand roller or portable power roller to pound surfaces not accessible to road roller.

Operate self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segments or other type of roller to company earth, subgrade, sub-base and asphalt surfaces.

Train new employees in the safe and efficient operation of the Roller.

Must ensure a solid understanding of and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.

Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.

Promote, execute, and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.

Work with Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents or near misses in the worksite, and ensure proper procedures are carried out according to the Company’s Safety Program.

Work in a safe, responsible manner to not intentionally or unintentionally injure oneself, or endanger the wellbeing of others.

Other related duties as required.

High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred

Class 5 Drivers License preferred

Minimum 2 years experience within the road construction industry.
-
2 to 3 years experience operating Breakdown Rollers, Rubber Tire Roller and Finish Rollers is required.

Schedule of Monday - Saturday up to 12 hours per day (weather dependent). Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.

Out of town travel may be required, accommodations and Live Out Allowance is applicable in most situations.

Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.

Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.

Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.

Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
