Mandate:
Undergraduate Advising in the School of Exercise Science, Physical and Health Education (EPHE), in the Faculty of Health supports prospective, transfer, and current undergraduate students in program advising, course selection and degree completion for EPHE undergraduate programs (i.e. BSc (Kinesiology) program, the BA (Recreation and Health Education) program, the BA (Physical and Health Education program), and the Minor in Physical Education).
The Undergraduate Academic Adviser actively consults and collaborates with students and reviews academic transcripts to provide information, referrals and advice that support students’ planning and decision-making as it relates to their degree (i.e. admission through degree completion) and life choices. The incumbent responds to a broad range of queries from students, parents, faculty and staff, including in-person, telephone, videoconference, and email communication. The incumbent also facilitates administrative processes related to undergraduate student advising, assists with recruitment and retention, and is responsible for a large portfolio of related administration.
Objectives:
- To support individual prospective, newly admitted and current undergraduate students as they take responsibility for resulting actions and decisions regarding their academic program
- To support the effectiveness of administrative processes related to student admission, registration and degree completion.
- To enhance student experience through a genuine interest in student experience and a commitment to UVic's strategic goals regarding student equity, diversity and inclusion as well as student recruitment and retention.
- As a result of the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
