Granite Golf Club is one of Canada's premier private golf clubs, recognized for its exceptional golf experience, outstanding member service, and strong tradition of excellence. We are seeking an experienced and collaborative finance professional to join our senior leadership team as Controller.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Controller is responsible for the overall financial management of the Club and provides leadership in the areas of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, risk management, and strategic planning.
As a member of the Club's senior leadership team, the Controller serves as a strategic business partner to the General Manager and plays a key role in supporting the Board of Directors and Finance & Membership Committee through sound financial stewardship, analysis, and planning. The successful candidate will contribute to organizational decision-making while ensuring the integrity and effectiveness of the Club's financial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Lead all accounting and financial operations of the Club, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, purchasing, treasury management, and general ledger functions.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements, variance analysis, cash flow forecasts, and management reports.
- Monitor financial performance and provide actionable insights and recommendations to the General Manager and leadership team.
- Develop and maintain financial forecasting models to support short- and long-term planning.
- Prepare financial reports and presentations for the Finance & Membership Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors.
Budgeting, Planning & Business Partnership
- Lead the annual operating and capital budget process in collaboration with the General Manager and department leaders.
- Support department heads through financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and operational planning.
- Assist in evaluating strategic initiatives, capital projects, and operational investments.
- Provide guidance and recommendations that support sound business decisions and long-term financial sustainability.
Governance, Audit & Risk Management
- Manage the annual external audit process and serve as the primary liaison with the Club's auditors.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices to safeguard Club assets.
- Oversee insurance programs and support organizational risk assessment initiatives.
- Ensure the integrity of financial systems, processes, and reporting practices.
Leadership & Collaboration
- Provide leadership and direction to the Club's accounting function.
- Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Work closely with department leaders to strengthen financial literacy and operational decision-making throughout the Club.
- Contribute as an active member of the Club's leadership team, supporting organizational goals and strategic priorities.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess:
- CPA designation in good standing.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of progressive financial leadership experience.
- Experience within a private club, hospitality, resort, recreation, or member-based organization is considered an asset.
- Candidates from the broader private sector with relevant financial leadership experience are encouraged to apply.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, cash management, and audit processes.
- Advanced proficiency with accounting systems, financial software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Proficiency in NorthStar is considered an asset.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, senior leadership, volunteer committees, auditors, and the Board of Directors.
