Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical and Mobility Engineering, and in cooperation with the Manger of the Centre for Smart Mining manager and the Director of Applied Research & Innovation, the incumbent will oversee the equipment and projects in Cambrian’s new Vale Electric Vehicle lab, a state-of-the-art facility that will be the first of its kind in Canada. Work with industry partners establish specialized test regimes for the department’s battery emulators and electric motor dynamometers

Engage in projects that will include technology integration for EVs, development of new technologies, and the conversion of mobile equipment from internal combustion engine to battery electric.

Work with Cambrian’s Electrician to ensure that the systems have the appropriate interface for unit under test and testing infrastructure. This will also include ensuring that all electrical safeguards and lockouts are in place before beginning a test run.

The incumbent will be responsible for gathering the data from the test equipment and analyzing the results for interpretation and presentation to the client.

The incumbent will be responsible for regular calibration and maintenance of the equipment as required by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Incumbent will be responsible for training staff and students who may interact with the equipment as part of their roles on applied research projects.

Supervise and mentor students, technicians and technologists on design and build activities and provide engineering support when required

Working with the Applied Research Business Developers, the incumbent will meet with industry partners to develop specialized test regimes for the EV Lab.

Provide assistance and direction to Cambrian College researchers working on projects with a high-tech focus.

Promote and uphold solid workplace safety standards and be an effective role model in this regard.

The incumbent will also be expected to engage in other applied research activities taking place in the EV Lab that relate to their area of specialization.
