Are you looking for an opportunity to advance the Province's relationship with Indigenous peoples in Ontario and assist with the resolution of outstanding land and land-related claims? If so, consider this unique opportunity with the Ministry of Indigenous Affairs and First Nations Economic Reconciliation to negotiate land and land-related claims with Indigenous communities, ministry partners and the federal government.
In this role, you will:
- lead negotiations on contentious and highly sensitive land claim negotiations
- provide advanced negotiations and project management support to highly complex land claim negotiations
- provide leadership, advice and guidance to negotiating team members
- coordinate the development of negotiation policies, strategies and proposals
- work with ministry partners to implement public and stakeholder engagement, consultation and communications initiatives
- You are willing and able to travel extensively to areas not accessible by public transportation.
You have experience:
- negotiating and leading multi-stakeholder land claim or land and resource related agreements of substantive subject matter to achieve strategic and long-term objectives
- adapting and modifying negotiation theories, principles, practices, methods and techniques to resolve divergent views and contentious situations
You have knowledge of:
- the legal, social and economic issues affecting the provincial land claims
- the history, culture, treaty rights and political structures of Indigenous peoples in Canada
You have:
- active listening and communication skills to negotiate in a clear, concise and persuasive manner, elicit information from stakeholders, identify interests, exchange information, and prepare briefing notes and/or presentation materials
- mediation and facilitation skills to broaden the areas of agreement and narrow the areas of disagreement with stakeholders of diverse and competing interests
- networking skills to establish stakeholder contacts, expedite communications, resolve issues and promote the provincial position
- You have project management skills to administer complex projects
- You can organize and prioritize multi-disciplinary negotiations team activities, and develop strategies and recommendations to achieve successful negotiations in a timely manner
You have:
- analytical, judgement, and evaluative skills to formulate negotiation approaches and strategies, evaluate settlement options and make recommendations
- the ability to research and synthesize large amounts of subject matter to summarize, identify issues/trends, provide advice and generate proposed options
