Why is this role important?
The HR Business Partner NOFRILLS, Western Canada works closely with Group Directors, District Managers, and a Store Support team within corporate operations to define and implement people strategies that are aligned with business plans, company culture and values, and provides HR guidance to 86+ franchise owners at an arm’s length relationship. This role maintains and enhances the organizations human resources by providing generalist expertise across the functional areas of HR (colleague/employee engagement, staffing, talent management, compliance, employee relations, total rewards, leadership development, culture, etc.) to enable business results.
The role can be based in Vancouver or Calgary depending on candidate's location.
What You'll Do:
Provide guidance, direction and advice to the client regarding employment related issues including but not limited to the interpretation of company policies & procedures, recruitment & selection strategy, performance management, terminations, strategic planning, training & development and benefits administration; (including Franchisees)
Provide franchisees guidance on developing proactive strategies to address their staffing needs to ensure theirs stores are fully staffed with a diverse workforce;
Provide guidance to franchisees on finding alternative ways to incent employees to drive performance - input into long term rewards and retention strategy (i.e. Pay for performance)
Support the delivery and deployment of HR programs and processes and participate in coaching and guiding in functional and cross-functional initiatives (Performance Management, Compensation, HiPo, Succession Planning, Engagement Survey and the Performance Review Cycle) for operations
Provide HR governance and management to the NOFRILLS Franchisee Candidate Readiness Program and ensure the program aligns to the NOFRILLS workforce planning tool, candidate’s readiness through learning modules and general guidance to candidates.
Recognizes barriers to success and facilitates proactive dispute resolution that supports a performance driven culture. Uses judgment supported by human resource acumen and practical experience to escalate matters as required.
Contribute to continuous improvements & best practices to influence human resources strategies;
Ensures that the interests of employees and company are considered in accordance with HR policies and applicable government laws and regulations – i.e.: ESA, Human Rights Code
Provide coaching & support management on leadership development, talent and performance management, change and people management issues & communication;
Assist the client in achieving their goals by identifying human resources and organizational development issues and by leading the analysis & diagnosis of client needs;
Day to day partner with client, trusted confidant and colleague advocate
Provides advice, guidance and coaching on matters related to all areas of HR
Some travel is required with District Managers and independently to conduct store visits with franchisees, focus on top & opportunity stores
What You'll Need:
3 to 5 years progressive HR experience with demonstrated knowledge in the area of client relation management
Equivalent combination of education and human resources experience; achievement of CHRP designation or post graduate degree preferred
Highly effective and persuasive personality, be a team player and leader and an excellent facilitator of action planning
Previous experience in a retail environment is an asset. Solid business and retail acumen an asset
Must be strategic, have a good professional presence, and possess strong planning and organizational skills and experience leading projects.
Ability to work toward a future vision / state without having all necessary details
Ability to interact with all levels with comprehensive consultative, partnering, facilitating, and influencing/negotiating skills
Ability to interpret conceptual or loosely defined business or project objectives and assess impact on HR
Strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and manage highly sensitive information.
Superior written and verbal communication skills
Solid computer skills including Excel, Word and PowerPoint required
Strong analytic skills and superior ability to problem-solve
Exceptional commitment to customer service with strong sense of urgency
Highly motivated, self-starter, requiring little direction
Local and long distance (within Canada) travel is required
