Located in Calgary, AB and reporting to the Director, People & Culture, the People & Culture (P&C) Payroll and Benefits Lead is a resourceful and trustworthy professional who can hit the ground running for both US and Canada. The successful candidate loves everything numbers and can work quickly and accurately. The People & Culture (P&C) Payroll and Benefits Lead can also look beyond the numbers and understand our employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee Payroll Operations: Manage and run payroll operations for Canada and the US, ensuring accuracy and compliance with payroll regulations.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Collaborate with finance, HR, and other internal teams to produce payroll reports, fulfill year-end requirements, and participate in payroll audits.
- Dayforce Payroll Management: Serve as the key contact for maintaining and supporting US and Canada payroll systems using Dayforce, responding to employee queries, providing guidance, and escalating issues when necessary.
- Conduct Payroll Reconciliations: Verify data accuracy and identify discrepancies in payroll processing, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best practices.
- Administer Employee Benefits: Oversee the administration of employee benefit programs, ensuring accurate enrollment and management of benefits for all staff.
- Support Onboarding: Facilitate the onboarding process for new hires, providing essential training on payroll and benefits systems and processes.
- Employee Lifecycle Management: Oversee changes in the employee lifecycle, including leaves, transfers, and terminations, ensuring alignment with HR policies.
- Stay Updated on Payroll Compliance: Maintain knowledge of payroll compliance standards and regulations in both the US and Canada.
- Implement New HR Systems: Contribute to the final implementation of new payroll and HRIS systems, ensuring smooth transitions and process integrations.
- Promote Company Culture: Champion and embody the company culture and core values, ensuring they are reflected in the employee experience.
- Collaborate with P&C Team: Work alongside the People & Culture team to promote a high-performing, learning-focused workplace.
- Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Guarantee compliance with all applicable workplace standards and labor laws in Canada and the US.
- Advocate for HR Best Practices: Promote HR best practices and evaluate innovative solutions that meet business needs while enhancing employee engagement.
- Manage HR Documentation: Develop and maintain HR processes, workflows, and documentation, ensuring accurate records management.
- Provide Cross-Functional Support: Assist in various projects as needed and provide coverage for other roles within the P&C team.
- Maintain Professionalism: Uphold a positive and professional image while handling sensitive issues with confidentiality and tact.
Qualifications
- Educational Requirements: Minimum post-secondary diploma in Human Resources or a related field; CPHR certification is an asset.
- Extensive Payroll Experience: At least 5 years of direct payroll experience with proficiency in managing both Canadian and US payroll for salaried and hourly employees.
- Experience with Benefits Administration: Demonstrated experience in running and administering comprehensive employee benefit programs.
- Strong Relationship Management Skills: Proven ability to build strong, trusting relationships across all levels of the organization, excelling in employee support.
- Knowledge of Payroll Legislation: In-depth understanding of current payroll legislation and HR trends.
- High-Growth Environment Experience: Experience in a dynamic, high-growth environment, understanding how HR evolves with organizational growth.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and HRIS systems, particularly Dayforce, for effective payroll management.
- Professional Ethics: High integrity and professionalism in managing sensitive information and situations.
- Exceptional Organizational Skills: Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
