Founded to provide compassionate, clinical, end-of-life care, The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc. has been caring for our community since 1979. Hospice believes in equitable access to care for all. We provide specialized wrap-around services to adults, children, and their caregivers, in the setting of their choice – whether it be in our Residences or in their home.

ROLE OVERVIEW
The Human Resources (HR) Manager is dedicated to Hospice’s vision, mission, and values. They support and work towards achieving the strategic directions set out by the Board of Directors. They put their best efforts forward in promoting the interests of our patients and staff as well as contributing to a positive work culture.
This role appeals to a dynamic Human Resources professional who is eager to support a growing organization and develop leadership skills. Reporting to the Director of Finance and HR, you will collaborate with managers, leadership and team members across the organization to support the sustainability of Hospice’s workforce.
The HR Manager, in collaboration with the Manager of HR and Business of Operations, is responsible for leading HR functions across the organization, including recruitment, onboarding, health and safety, employee relations, attendance and performance management. The role also supports administrative functions such as maintaining employee records, updating position profiles, interview tools, and organizational policies and procedures, as well as providing meeting and working group support. The Human Resources Manager is responsible for day-to-day HR functions within ADP.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Chair bi-weekly HR-Clinical meetings.

Maintain expert understanding of staffing models and needs across the organization.

Create and share job postings through HRIS (ADP) and via e-mail.

Conduct recruitment practices aligned with Hospice’s mission, vision and values to select suitable candidates based on organizational need.

Coordinate, schedule and conduct candidate interviews.

Complete reference checks for successful candidates.

Coordinate with managers, leadership and Finance to prepare offer.

Initiate onboarding process through HRIS (ADP) and ensure hiring requirements are completed prior to employee start.

Coordinate with Payroll and Finance to initiate benefits and HOOPP pension when appropriate.

Coordinate with Learning and Development Coordinator to schedule Hospice-wide orientation for all new hires; serve as backup if required.

Maintain Employee Documents and Employee Notes in ADP.

Manage day-to-day employee relations including leaves of absence and other inquiries. Maintain required documentation.

Support attendance tracking following Attendance Management policies.

Support managers and leadership in tracking and conducting performance management. Provide administrative support (i.e. meeting minutes and documenting conversations, drafting disciplinary letters).

Lead internal investigations including documentation, CCTV review, interviews and providing a report with recommendations in coordination with managers and leadership.

Facilitate employee engagement initiatives including surveys and focus groups. Develop action items and workplans based on feedback.

Submit WSIB claims and coordinate with staff member, WSIB and managers to facilitate safe return to work plans.

Champion WSIB Excellence Program implementation at Hospice.

Coordinate and lead annual performance evaluations and goal setting for all staff through ADP.

Develop and update HR policies and procedures based on changing organizational needs.
Accountabilities

Accountable for the maintenance of Hospice policies and professional behaviour, and for ensuring review as required/indicated.

Accountable for ensuring adherence to HPCO and CARF accreditation standards.

Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Valid Police Record Check including vulnerable sector check (within six months of hire, and declaration of offences as required).

Experience

Minimum 3-5 years’ of HR work experience is required

Experience in non-profit or healthcare is an asset

Experience with WSIB Health and Safety Excellence Program is an asset
Education

Bachelor’s degree or diploma concentration in Human resources management, business or related field
-
CHRP designation or working towards completion
-
JHSC training is an asset
