Job Overview
The Gift Shop and Administration Assistant will work closely with the Gift Shop Manager and Assistant Director and play an important front-line role in supporting daily operations of the museum’s gift shop and administrative office.
Gift Shop Operations
- Welcome visitors and provide friendly, informative service in the museum gift shop and front desk area.
- Process sales transactions using the point-of-sale system, handling cash, and cashing and cash out (Shopify).
- Monitor and restock inventory, assist with visual merchandising and product displays.
- Contribute to developing and promoting new products that align with museum programming.
- Receive, tag and stock orders when appropriate using Shopify.
Visitor Services
- Provide general information to visitors about museum exhibits, programs, and events.
- Support museum tours, events, and educational activities as needed.
- Administrative Support
- Assist with filing, data entry, and record keeping.
- Support the preparation of reports, newsletters, and promotional materials.
- Assist with scheduling, volunteer coordination, and correspondence.
- Marketing and Communications
- Help update the museum’s social media platforms with engaging posts related gift shop products.
- Assist with creating signage, posters, and online content to promote the museum and its retail offerings.
The British Columbia Aviation Museum is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving aircraft, artifacts, and stories relating to the aviation history of British Columbia. The British Columbia Aviation Museum is situated at the Victoria International Airport in North Saanich, BC and occupies approximately 45,000 square feet of display space, with a collection of over 10,000 artifacts. The museum has four full-time staff and over one-hundred dedicated volunteers. Our collection has over 40 aircraft on display that once flew in Canadian skies, mostly over British Columbia, with our earliest aircraft dating back to 1910. In some cases, our aircraft on display are all that is left of the aircraft that took to the skies over BC.
Qualifications:
- Must be under the age of 30
- Must be enrolled in or returning to secondary school, college, university, or CEGP
- Retail experience is an asset
- Understanding of POS systems (Shopify)
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
- Relaxed with an open, can-do attitude to problem solving
- The flexibility to adapt to changing situations and circumstances
- Happy to turn your hand to any tasks that may present themselves
- Work flexible hours on occasions
- Occasionally be available to work evenings when there’s a function at the museum
