The Role
As Manager, Hydrogeology, you will provide senior-level technical expertise and leadership on a diverse portfolio of hydrogeological, environmental, remediation, reclamation, mining, infrastructure, and resource development projects. You will oversee the collection, management, interpretation, and reporting of hydrogeological data while mentoring junior staff and supporting multidisciplinary project teams.
The successful candidate will work closely with geoscientists, engineers, environmental scientists, project managers, clients, and regulatory agencies to deliver high-quality technical solutions for complex groundwater and water management challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
- Provide senior hydrogeological expertise across a range of environmental, mining, infrastructure, energy, and remediation projects.
- Lead the design and implementation of groundwater monitoring and investigation programs.
- Conduct groundwater impact assessments, contaminant transport evaluations, and support remedial planning initiatives.
- Develop, interpret, and refine groundwater conceptual models.
- Analyze, interpret, and communicate hydrogeological data through technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables.
- Integrate hydrogeological considerations into geochemical, water balance, and environmental assessment models.
- Ensure hydrogeological programs are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with industry best practices.
Field Program Management
- Plan, organize, and oversee hydrogeological field investigations, including:
- Groundwater monitoring and sampling
- Drilling and well installation programs
- Aquifer and pumping tests
- Tracer studies
- Packer testing programs
- Operate, maintain, and oversee specialized hydrogeological monitoring and testing equipment.
- Review and interpret field observations and site conditions to support project objectives.
Quality Assurance & Data Management
- Lead implementation of hydrogeological quality assurance and quality control procedures.
- Ensure accurate data collection, validation, management, storage, and reporting.
- Maintain high technical standards across all project deliverables.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and project stakeholders.
- Participate in technical meetings and support regulatory engagement processes.
- Provide practical recommendations and technical guidance to support informed decision-making.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to hydrogeologists and junior technical staff.
- Support onboarding, training, and professional development initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment focused on technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
- Assist with resource planning and workload management in collaboration with practice leaders and project managers.
Business Development
- Support proposal preparation, project scoping, budgeting, and cost estimating.
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and contribute to business growth.
- Participate in strategic initiatives that strengthen the hydrogeology practice.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Geoscience, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree or postgraduate specialization in Hydrogeology, Geoscience, Geological Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
Experience
- 10+ years of progressive hydrogeological consulting, mining, environmental, infrastructure, or resource-sector experience.
- Minimum 5+ years of experience consulting within the mining sectors
- Demonstrated expertise in hydrogeological investigations, groundwater monitoring, data analysis, conceptual model development, and technical reporting.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary projects and managing technical teams.
- Strong understanding of groundwater systems in mining, infrastructure, energy, remediation, or industrial environments.
- Experience working on large, multi-stakeholder, technically complex projects is highly desirable.
