Glenbrooke Daycare Society (Glenbrooke Daycare) is a not-for-profit daycare located in New Westminster, BC. We have been a proud member of the community for over 13 years, offering a full range of programs for infants, toddlers and children aged 1 to 12 years old. There are currently 7 full-time and 5 part-time staff, in addition to the Daycare Manager.

Glenbrooke Daycare provides childcare services at two locations in New Westminster. The main daycare location provides programming for 3 infant/toddlers, 20 children in the age 3-4 program, and 7 Kindergarten students. The daycare’s second location provides before and after school programming for 24 children in Grades 1 to 5. The daycare provides drop off and pick up services at two elementary schools in the area: École Herbert Spencer Elementary and École Qayqayt Elementary. Daycare hours are 7 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday.

Glenbrooke Daycare is currently seeking a Daycare Manager as well as an Assistant Daycare Manager. This job posting pertains to the Daycare Manager position.


Reporting to the Glenbrooke Daycare Board of Directors (Board), the Daycare Manager is responsible for the overall management of both the main daycare and before/after school daycare locations.

As the successful candidate, you possess strong organization, problem solving, and decision making skills, as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills. Your strong interpersonal and leadership abilities along with your friendly nature enable you to work successfully with staff, parents and the Board to create a welcoming, safe and fun environment that supports the children’s learning and growth. You are a good listener and a critical thinker who excels at multi-tasking to ensure the daycare runs smoothly.


The successful candidate will:

  • Provide overall management of both the main and before/after school daycare locations * Interview, hire and orient new staff to the daycare * Conduct staff performance reviews * Set staff work schedules and approve vacation requests * Maintain good communication with parents and the Board * Collaborate closely with daycare bookkeeper to ensure the daycare remains in sound financial order; includes maintaining and submitting payroll information and monthly receipts (for month end reports) * Manage banking (cheque deposits) and petty cash * Prepare and submit external funding applications (grants) and subsidy forms * Complete child care operating fund (CCOF) online reporting * Prepare annual tax receipts for parents and distribute T4’s to staff * Organize and attend ministry inspections
  • Ensure the daycare is operating in accordance with licensing requirements * Attend meetings with supported childcare as needed and assist with preparing individual care plans * Maintain the daycare fixed asset and inventory lists * Work with staff to set daily programming for the children, as well as special programming (Christmas break, March break, summer program) * Cover floor as needed to maintain staff-to-child ratio * Oversee special events planning and shopping (Christmas party, annual staff dinner) * Purchase daycare materials, supplies and food (snacks) * Monitor and identify pending spot openings (space planning) * Manage inquiries (emails, phone calls) from prospective families * Interview prospective families and register families in the daycare as spaces become available * Maintain the enrollment wait list * Attend monthly Board meetings (typically held monthly on a weekday evening) * Liaise with landlords and contractors (electricians, plumbers) to ensure safe building conditions * Have working knowledge and able to use MS Office Suite (Word, Excel)


To be considered for this position, you must possess the following minimum qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) certification from an accredited program * Current First Aid, CPR and FOODSAFE BC certifications * Minimum 5 years of experience working in a daycare environment

Previous experience in a not-for-profit daycare environment, and/or previous management experience at a daycare facility, is considered an asset. A combination of education and experience will be considered. Additional educational qualifications in child education-related fields are also beneficial (e.g., Infant/Toddler certification, teaching certifications).

You must have a valid driver’s licence and own a vehicle that can be used for daycare related purposes (bank visits, food shopping, etc.).

Conditions of Employment

The first day of employment will be October 1, 2019 (with potential to start sooner as determined by the Board). The successful candidate will job shadow the current Daycare Manager for a minimum 3 month period, then assume the role of Daycare Manager as of January 1, 2020.

The successful applicant must provide proof of qualifications. This position requires completion of a Police Information Check.
