Droit Aequitas Law is expanding to Saint John, and we are seeking an experienced Paralegal to help establish and support our new office.
This is a broad, hands-on role for someone with meaningful experience in family law, property transactions, and wills and estates. The successful candidate will work closely with our legal team, communicate directly with clients and other professionals, and help ensure files move forward accurately, compassionately, and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
Family Law
- Support family law and child-protection files from intake through resolution
- Prepare correspondence, court forms, disclosure packages, briefs, and other legal documents under lawyer supervision
- Maintain court dates, limitation periods, filing deadlines, and follow-up requirements
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients, opposing offices, courts, and partner organizations
- Organize evidence, financial information, disclosure, and file records
- Support Legal Aid billing, file documentation, and matter progression
Property Law
- Coordinate residential purchases, sales, and refinancing transactions
- Gather instructions and information from clients, lenders, realtors, and other law offices
- Prepare transaction documents under lawyer supervision
- Manage searches, undertakings, trust conditions, closing requirements, and post-closing work
- Monitor critical dates and maintain complete, accurate transaction files
- Support client meetings, document execution, and closings in the Saint John office
Wills and Estates
- Support the preparation and execution of wills, powers of attorney, and advance health-care directives
- Assist with probate and estate-administration files
- Gather information from clients, beneficiaries, financial institutions, and other parties
- Prepare correspondence, inventories, applications, and supporting documents under lawyer supervision
- Track deadlines, distributions, outstanding requirements, and file completion
What We Are Looking For
- Previous paralegal or senior legal-assistant experience in a New Brunswick law office
- Demonstrated experience across family law, property law, and wills and estates
- Strong legal drafting, document-production, organization, and deadline-management skills
- Ability to independently coordinate a varied caseload while working under lawyer supervision
- Excellent judgment, discretion, and understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries
- A calm, respectful, and client-centred approach, particularly when supporting people experiencing conflict, stress, or significant life transitions
- Strong communication skills and confidence working with courts, lenders, realtors, government departments, and other legal professionals
- Comfort using legal-practice technology and electronic file-management systems
- Experience with Clio is considered an asset
- Bilingualism in English and French is considered an asset
