Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Personal Support Worker (PSW) or a second-year or higher nursing student to join our caregiving team in the Verner area. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in healthcare to gain valuable hands-on experience while making a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve. The ideal candidate will be committed to providing high-quality patient care, supporting independence, and enhancing the well-being of clients across various care settings.
Duties
- Assist clients with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
- Provide medication reminders and assist with medication administration following proper protocols
- Support clients with meal preparation, nutritional needs, and feeding assistance
- Engage in light housekeeping duties including cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe environment
- Offer companionship and emotional support to individuals with dementia, disabilities, or those receiving hospice care
- Assist with transfers and heavy lifting using proper techniques to ensure safety for both clients and caregivers
- Support clients with mobility exercises and assistive device management
- Follow care plans meticulously and document all care provided accurately
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care
- Uphold infection control standards and maintain hygiene protocols at all times
Experience
- PSWs need to have a minimum of 6 months experience in long-term care.
- Nursing students must have completed their long-term care placement.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities, dementia, or in hospice settings is an asset
- Background in nursing home or senior care environments preferred
- Demonstrated ability to perform caregiving tasks such as medication administration, meal preparation, and light cleaning
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks including heavy lifting safely
- Strong interpersonal skills to connect effectively with diverse clients and team members
- Knowledge of patient care standards and safety procedures essential for quality service delivery
