Position Overview
We are seeking reliable, compassionate, and adaptable Supply Teaching Assistants to join our team on an as-needed, casual basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for meaningful, flexible work that makes a real difference in the lives of adults with autism. Ideal candidates are dependable, professional, and excited to support our students when needed.
Successful supply teachers who demonstrate strong commitment and reliability will be given priority consideration for future part-time or permanent positions as they become available.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and facilitate structured lessons and activities based on our established program outlines (social skills, communication, independent living skills, emotional regulation using Zones of Regulation, life skills, arts, music, exercise, and cooking/baking)
- Adapt activities to meet individual learning styles and needs
- Assist with community outings and help students practice real-world skills
- Foster a positive, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment
- Observe student progress, collect data, and support individualized goals
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and supportive classroom setting
- Provide respectful assistance with personal care tasks when required
- Provide respectful assistance with personal care tasks, including toileting and hygiene support for individuals who require assistance
Qualifications
Required:
- Diploma or degree in Education, Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Special Education, Social Service Worker, or a related field
- Previous experience working with adults with autism and/or developmental disabilities
- Strong communication, patience, and teamwork skills
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s licence (G or G2) is strongly preferred
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Vulnerable Sector Screening (or willingness to obtain)
Assets:
- Knowledge of augmentative communication systems (PECS, Proloquo2Go, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with the principles of applied behaviour analysis
- Experience with community outings and independent living skill development
Working Conditions
- Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays) on an as-needed, casual basis
- Small student-to-staff ratio (1:3 or 1:4) with additional support from peer mentors and volunteers
- Occasional community outings
Compensation
$22.00 – $25.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
