Role Overview
The HR Manager at Seaport plays a vital role in shaping and enhancing the overall employee experience throughout the employee lifecycle. This role will support the development and execution of HR initiatives and strategies in the areas of talent attraction and acquisition, onboarding, learning and development, employee engagement and performance management.
This role will play a critically vocal role in supporting the executive leadership team and leaders plan and execute all people forward initiatives.
Key Accountabilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Own Seaports Employer Branding strategy
- Ultimately responsible for ensuring attraction strategies are in place to support funnel requirements and hiring needs across all roles
- Own full-cycle recruitment processes for all exempt roles
- Work with hiring managers to identify staffing needs, establish business cases for hiring and develop effective talent attraction and recruitment strategies.
- Build and maintain relationships with recruitment agencies, universities, technical schools and industry organizations to expand our talent pipeline.
- Work in collaboration with the Onboarding team and managers to streamline and digitize the onboarding documentation process to enhance efficiency.
- Act as a point of contact for new employees, addressing any questions or concerns. Analyze the effectiveness of recruitment metrics and trends, best practices, and legal requirements related to recruitment and employment practices.
- Provide thought leadership on the organization community engagement strategy.
Employee Engagement
- Participating in and making recommendations for the evolution of Seaport’s Employee Engagement strategy.
- Design and implement Employee Listening Strategies across the organization to ensure all employees have multiple venues in which to provide regular feedback.
- Building and executing a strong strategy for the annual Employee Engagement Survey delivery. Key partner in analyzing engagement data to identify trends, areas for improvement and supporting the implementation of targeted action plans.
- Provide support and guidance to managers and supervisors on employee engagement best practices, including communication strategies, team-building activities and recognition.
- Support leaders with building their skills to enhance employee engagement within their teams.
Talent Management
- Support, lead and design performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and development plans.
- Drive and facilitate succession planning, including supporting the identification of high potential employees and working with leadership to create career development opportunities.
- Act as the main POC for employee concerns, providing guidance and support as required. Respond to employee inquiries related to policies, procedures and workplace concerns.
HR Analytics and Reporting
- Maintain accurate HR records and generate reports as needed for management and compliance purposes.
- Work with internal and external partners to optimize the functionality of the Company HRIS, finding opportunities to streamline processes and drive employee and manager self-service.
- Play an integral role in driving HR to become a metrics-driven function within the Company.
Risk & Compliance
- Proactively identify compliance issues requiring follow-up; serve as point of contact for reporting irregularities
- Consult with employment legal and HR policy, process, and system owners Develop a deep understanding of Canada employment policies and drive policy updates and changes when necessary or required
- Draft written narratives and prepare other supporting documentation such as manager and employee communications, FAQs, and standard operating processes
- Respond clearly and precisely to questions about compliance obligations and solutions Direct the development and implementation of written compliance policies, procedures and guidelines, in accordance with laws and regulations specific to the business
- Deliver effective training content and awareness materials for related compliance topics
- Maintain relevant knowledge base resources, intranet website content and SharePoint sites
Payroll & Benefits
- Oversee the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other Company perks.
- Develop deep knowledge of Canada pay, time and attendance processes and solutions.
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary educational institution, in the field of Human Resources or equivalent preferred.
- 5+ years' experience in Human Resources, with a focus on the development of key HR infrastructure.
- Strong working knowledge of the Canada Labour Code and relevant Employment Standards. Experience in the logistics and/or Transportation industries is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to identify areas of opportunity and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to be vocal and articulate thoughts clearly and effectively at all levels of the organization. You must be comfortable speaking up in meetings, presenting ideas, and offering constructive feedback.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and client groups.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities.
- Sound critical thinking skills and proven ability to exercise good judgment.
- Ability to travel locally and within Canada up to 15% of the time.
