Job Summary
Our insurance defence firm is seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated lawyer, with 2-3 Years of experience in insurance defense. The successful candidate will work closely with a partner on a diverse portfolio of Tort and Accident Benefits files, which may include priority, loss transfer, subrogation, coverage matters and product liability. In this role, you will be required to exercise strong critical thinking and analysis, particularly when reviewing legal documents, collaborating in assessing case strategies, and making decisions that affect the outcome of complex matters. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled and motivated lawyer to contribute to an insurance law boutique practice while working alongside a partner and a team of seasoned professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Partner, ensuring timely progression and resolution.
- Follow protocols for regular, clear, and timely communication/reporting with clients, keeping them updated on case developments
- Draft pleadings, motions, affidavits, mediation briefs, and other litigation documents.
- Handle all matters with attention to detail
- Attend examinations for discovery, mediations, Licence Appeal Tribunal Proceedings, and other litigation events
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and maintain accurate case records.
Qualifications
- LL.B. or J.D. from a recognized law school
- Membership in good standing with the LSO
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience as a lawyer in insurance defense, AB, coverage and/or product liability.
- Proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities to assess legal issues and make informed decisions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly
- Strong multi-tasking, organizational and client management skills
- Collaborative mindset with a focus on both individual and team success
- Ability to exercise discretion and sound judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive information
