Nurse Counselor - CNESST

Person who is called upon to advise an institution on questions pertaining to nursing or occupational health and control programs who may be required to carry out such responsibilities as:

  • The design, distribution, evaluation and revision of orientation, training and skills updating activities

for employees and trainees;

  • The design, implementation, evaluation and revision of programs aimed at improving the quality of

health care and professional activities and programs.


  • The incumbent collaborates in setting up an occupational health and safety program in liyiyuu Aschii based in the Public Health Department in Mistissini and serving mainly establishments in the CNESST’s priority groups 1,2,3 as well as implementing specific occupational health programs in certain categories of establishments identified. She/he identifies priority workplaces in the nine communities of Liyiuu Aschii. To add core functions/job tasks as needed by the recruiting manager and the Staffing team’s review;
  • She/he visits these workplaces, identifying the risks in the enterprise, assess them with the technician, participates in the elaboration of the occupational health program with the md and technician and other resources, she applies the activities of the specific health program;
  • She/he Informs the employers and employees on related health risks and their prevention measures;
  • At the regional level, she/he helps to develop an orientation and training program for occupational health nurse and technicians in the workplace;
  • The incumbent must fill the CNESST reports as required and do clerical work and enter data in the information system SISAT;
  • Train the new personnel according to their needs



  • Member in good standing of the O.I.I.Q;
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing or an undergraduate degree consisting of three (3) admissible

certificates, of which two (2) are accredited certificates in Nursing.

A certificate in occupational Health is a strong asset.


  • Three (3) years of experience as a nurse including:

Two (2) years of experience in CNESST programs

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and experience with public and community health prevention and promotion related approaches, methods, issues and programming (and in First Nation contexts being an asset);
  • Knowledge of MSSS programs and regulations for first lines services is an asset;
  • Knowledge of the CNESST programs; CNESST
  • Knowledge and experience with work place policies and procedures;
  • Good professional record in community health nursing in a similar type of environment;
  • Teaching abilities;
  • Knowledge of Cree culture, and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou healing practices and paradigms is an asset;
  • Excellent communication skills, both group animation, written and presentation;
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening communication, leadership and teamwork skills;
  • Excellent critical thinking, organizational and decision-making skills;
  • Good knowledge of software applications such as Outlook, Word, Power Point and SISAT
  • Willing to travel.


  • Fluent in French and English
  • Fluency in Cree is an asset

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Salary: $25.37 to $46.33 /hour
