BreakThrough Counselling is a growing group practice grounded in trauma-informed, bottom-up care. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Trauma Informed Therapist to join our dynamic, trauma-informed team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for helping individuals heal from past trauma and will be skilled in creating a safe and supportive therapeutic space for clients.
This position is a good fit if you:
- Practise from a somatic or bottom-up lens, not just cognitively
- Have training and experience in EMDR, parts work (IFS-informed), or other trauma-focused approaches
- Understand trauma through a nervous system and polyvagal framework
- Track pacing, shutdown, defences, and relational dynamics in session
- Are curious, reflective, and open to consultation and feedback
- Want to work as part of a collaborative clinical team, not in isolation
This role is likely not a fit if you:
- Are looking to “do your hours, make your money, and leave”
- Prefer working independently with minimal consultation
- Rely primarily on insight-based or technique-driven interventions
- Are uncomfortable discussing countertransference or clinical process
- Want autonomy without relational responsibility
What working here actually involves:
- Providing trauma-informed care to teens, adults and/or couples
- Working with developmental trauma, nervous system regulation, and attachment
- Using EMDR, somatic, or parts-based approaches with pacing and consent
- Participating in regular case consultation and team collaboration
- Engaging in a clinic culture that values honesty, humour, and clinical depth
What we offer:
- A supportive, relational clinic environment
- Consistent referrals aligned with your scope and interests
- Clinical collaboration and consultation (not just admin support)
- Flexibility with scheduling
- Competitive split
- A workplace where clinicians enjoy coming in—not just logging on
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work (MSW), Psychology (M.A., M.S., PhD), or a related field.
- Must be a current member of one of the following professional orders Ordre des travailleurs sociaux du Québec (OTSTQ) for social workers, or Ordre des psychologues du Québec (OPQ) for psychologists or psychotherapists.
- Demonstrated experience and comfort with trauma-informed care, including an understanding of how trauma impacts the body and mind.
- Trained in at least one of the following: Somatic therapy, IFS, EMDR, EFT tapping
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect empathetically and effectively with diverse clients.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Previous experience working with clients in a therapeutic or counselling role is preferred.
- Commitment to professional growth and ongoing education
Why Join Us?
We are a supportive, trauma-informed practice that values collaboration, empathy, and client-centered care. We believe in the power of healing and provide a nurturing environment where both our clients and team members can grow. We’re building a collaborative clinical team—not a collection of solo practitioners sharing space.
This role is for therapists who work with the nervous system, value depth over speed, and want to be part of a team they actually engage with.
If you are passionate about helping others heal and are eager to contribute to a supportive, inclusive team, we’d love to hear from you!
