The Tumor Immunotherapy Program (TIP) at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre is the first program of its kind in Canada and one of only a handful of others around the world. The program brings together specialists in the fields of immunology, oncology, pathology and surgery who have expertise spanning from basic immunology discoveries through clinical trials of immune therapies. The Tumor Immunotherapy Program is focused on improving our knowledge of the immune system to better diagnose, detect and target cancers.

TIP is looking for a Clinical Research Study Assistant to help with the preparation of new patient referrals to the Tumor Immunotherapy Program and other disease site groups (eg. breast, sarcoma) so that referrals received contain all relevant medical records information, such as prior systemic treatment records, radiation and surgery records, pathology reports, imaging reports, recent blood work, and consultation notes. In addition, the Clinical Research Study Assistant also helps with patient flow coordination such as booking appointments for TIP patients to be assessed as per clinical trial protocols, arranging appointments for tests and investigations on clinical trials and notifying patients of such appointments, facilitating communications with the Tumor Immunotherapy Program about patient flow. In addition, this position also includes administrative assistance to TIP Clinical Trial Nurses in day-to-day operations such as photocopying, preparing study charts for new trial patients, arranging shipments for study related materials and samples, etc. The Clinical Research Study Assistant must have training in ICH-GCP to be compliant with Tri-Council, and federal regulations.

  • At minimum, Community college diploma in a health-related discipline, or equivalent
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s degree program, or recognized equivalent in Health or Science-Related Discipline is preferred
  • Demonstrated relevant clinical research knowledge
  • Experience in some or all of oncology, clinical trials, medical terminology, and regulatory issues involving human subjects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, excellent organization, prioritization skills, good computer skills, ability to learn quickly and work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and attention to detail
  • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance to UHN standards
  • Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
  • Satisfactory attendance
  • Certification as a Clinical Research Professional an asset
